Seoul Station Japanese restaurant with an onsen tamago side: Furato
In short
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a gyukatsu and steki (Japanese beef cutlet and steak) restaurant on basement level 1 of Seoul Square, next to Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a weekend lunch there was no wait at Furato Shokudo, and the gyukatsu and steki set meals came with a side of onsen tamago (slow-cooked soft egg) and Isigny butter to grill on the tabletop brazier. With a direct link from the subway station and food that arrives fast, it was a satisfying meal before catching the KTX.

Last weekend I went to catch a show in Asan, and beforehand I was looking for somewhere to eat near Seoul Station. I ended up at Furato Shokudo, known for its gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and steki (steak). It's called a hidden gem for Japanese food near Seoul Station, and being inside Seoul Square means it's an easy walk straight from the subway station — plus parking is available, which is a huge plus.
There are several tables, including group seating for up to 8, so it works well whether you're eating alone or with a group. We walked in with no wait on a weekend lunch, and the food came out fast too, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a satisfying meal near Seoul Station!
How to find Furato Shokudo Seoul Square at Seoul Station

The restaurant is on basement level 1 of Seoul Square. If you're walking in from the main entrance, take the escalator down on the left and Furato Shokudo is right there on the left. We came in from the subway station, which had a direct entrance, so it was even easier to find.

The sign is written in Japanese, so check the storefront photos above ahead of time so you know what to look for. If you're coming from the subway, it's right in front, so it's easy to spot.

There's a waitlist registration kiosk out front, and you can also check the menu ahead of time, which was nice.
Seating and ordering at Furato Shokudo, solo diners included

The atmosphere was comfortable and the staff were friendly. There were quite a lot of 2-person tables, so it seemed easy to drop by for a weekday lunch, or even solo.

You order using the tag and QR code on the table, and I liked that the menu had a lot of variety — gyukatsu, steki sets, omurice, curry, rice bowls, and more.

There was a note stuck to the table on how to enjoy gyukatsu the best way, so I gave it a read, haha.
We each ordered a gyukatsu set and a steki set, and added onsen tamago (soft-boiled egg in dashi) as a side. Right around the time the food arrived, the staff lit the tabletop grill for us. They check on the burner partway through and swap it out, or you can just ask to have it changed if you'd like!
Gyukatsu and steki sets grilled on the tabletop brazier

The food came out faster than I expected! It was neatly arranged on the tray, which I liked. We ate right before catching the KTX, and it kicked off the trip on a good note, haha.

The gyukatsu had a crispy coating and tender meat. Personally, I preferred it cooked a bit more than rare or medium, so the fat melts down.

The steki set was the same story — the slightly rendered fat gave it a wonderfully soft texture. I thought it would also be great as a rice bowl instead of a set, so I'm planning to come back for the rice bowl next time.

Gyukatsu and steki cooking away nicely on the grill! They cook quickly, so it was easy to eat right away too. Can you see the nice layer of fat rendering? The grill marks that show up on the steki depending on the grate shape made it look even more appetizing, haha!
Three sauces, Isigny butter and onsen tamago: the best combination

There were three types of sauce, so I dipped according to taste. You can also add Isigny butter as a side, and the steki paired with butter was really lovely too.
The butter's richness went so well with the steki. If you're a butter lover, I'd recommend adding it on.

The onsen tamago was seasoned just right too, and paired well with the gyukatsu. I can't resist a soft-boiled egg~

The combination of tender meat and crispy coating~ Honestly, there's nowhere selling gyukatsu in my neighborhood, so I'd love to come back next time I'm near Seoul Station.

It's also great with the wasabi they give you on the side~ And if the flame goes out, just let the staff know — they'll refill the fuel(?) right away!
Is Furato Shokudo worth it for a meal near Seoul Station?
