Jamsil Korean BBQ with beehive pork skin and grilled scallion: Migang

In short

Migang Sikdang is a Korean BBQ restaurant right in front of Samjeon Station in Songpa, Seoul. The 3-person set arrives on one grill with pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl, beehive-cut pork skin and rib cutlets, and a whole scallion, kimchi and garlic go on the grill too, while a separate side griddle cooks egg and corn cheese. If you want to try several cuts in one sitting, the 3-person set at Migang Sikdang is the one to order.

I went to Migang Sikdang (미강식당), a Korean BBQ restaurant near Samjeon Station where you can try a wide variety of cuts in one sitting!

Where is Migang Sikdang? Right in front of Samjeon Station

Migang Sikdang is right in front of Samjeon Station, so it's very easy to get to. If you're looking for a Korean BBQ spot in Jamsil that's convenient by public transit, this place already has the location down.

And so you don't get bored while waiting, there's a basketball arcade game and a coin arcade machine set up outside. Waiting at a BBQ place usually means you're hungry and time drags, but playing something like this while you wait is actually kind of fun haha. I think kids would love it too if you come with family.

What sauces and side dishes come with the meal?

Migang Sikdang serves two sauces — a spicy one and a soy sauce — so you can alternate depending on your mood. The spicy sauce cuts through the richness of the meat, while the soy sauce is salty and clean, and both paired well.

There's also seasoned bean sprouts, which are great when things get too rich! Being able to mix and match made it even more satisfying.

The restaurant is spacious and comfortable too, so it works well for families, friends, or dates!

Grilling a whole scallion, cut up on the grill

They bring out an entire scallion, whole! We cut it into bite-sized pieces and grilled it until golden brown, and as it cooked the sweetness really came through — it was genuinely delicious. Eating the meat together with the grilled scallion was the best combination!

The self-serve corner was also pretty well stocked. There were as many as 4 types of lettuce wraps, plus garlic, chili peppers, ssamjang (dipping paste), kimchi, and pickled onions to take as much as you like.

We ordered Migang Sikdang's 3-person set so we could try several cuts at once.

  • Pork belly
  • Pork neck
  • Pork jowl
  • Beehive-cut pork skin
  • Rib cutlets

All these different cuts come out together. If you eat just one kind of meat the whole time you can get a little tired of it, but since each cut has a totally different texture and flavor, we never got bored all the way to the end.

Migang Sikdang doesn't just have a grill for meat — there's a separate space around it for cooking other things together.

Since rib cutlets were included too, there was a lot of fun in picking and choosing what to eat. There was a spot for pouring in steamed egg, and a separate griddle for corn cheese, garlic, and kimchi.

The pork neck was mild but had a nice chew. The pork jowl had that signature chewy texture done just right!

Of course, with this kind of food you can't not have a bottle of soju haha

Kimchi and garlic grilled properly in the meat's own fat taste way better than eating them plain, right? Haha. With grilled kimchi alone, the pork belly just keeps going in.

While waiting for the meat to cook, there's fun to be had spooning up the fluffy steamed egg and corn cheese.

These days some BBQ places give you skimpy lettuce wraps or make you feel awkward asking for more, but Migang Sikdang made it easy — you just grab more from the self-serve corner.

The pork belly was, as expected, savory and delicious, the pork neck was mild with a good chew, and the pork jowl had that signature chewy texture done just right!

Myeoljeot (salted anchovy dipping sauce) is free if you ask

They'll also bring you myeoljeot for free if you order it. Dipping the pork belly lightly in myeoljeot brings out a salty, savory depth of flavor. If you like myeoljeot, definitely ask for it!

The beehive-cut pork skin was the best bite

And personally, the tastiest thing was the beehive-cut pork skin! The skin has honeycomb-style scoring cut into it, so the seasoning soaks in well and the texture when grilled was really great.

Slightly crispy on the outside while staying chewy the more you bite into it — so good haha. It was perfect for finishing off the meal after all the other meat. If you like pork skin, you have to try this!

Migang Sikdang: the verdict

Migang Sikdang lets you try pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl, beehive pork skin, and rib cutlets all at once with the 3-person set, and the self-serve corner is generously stocked with 4 types of lettuce wraps and basic side dishes. With steamed egg, corn cheese, grilled garlic, kimchi, and even a whole scallion to grill, there was so much to enjoy alongside the meat.
