A grilled shrimp lunch overlooking Geobukseom Beach
The weather was lovely, so we headed to the wonderful, romantic 101 The Terrace Geobukseom Main Branch (101 더 테라스 거북섬본점), where you can have lunch while taking in an ocean view. Hearing that shrimp are in season now—plump with meat and delicately sweet—made me crave grilled shrimp, so my husband and I went for some grilled shellfish at this Geobukseom favorite. 101 The Terrace looks right out over Geobukseom Beach, which also makes it such a nice place for a date.

There is underground parking, so we parked comfortably and came up to the first floor. Ask about “parking registration” after your meal for free parking.

The terrace stretches out so prettily.

And the beach view in front of the terrace is so, so, so beautiful. Seagulls were lined up, sitting there and enjoying the calm, and it made me want to sit back too—soaking up the warm sunshine, chatting away, and simply enjoying myself.

Looking at the wide-open beach made me feel completely refreshed. The weather that day was perfection. The sun was pleasantly warm, the breeze was just right, the sky was gorgeous, the sea was gorgeous—there was not one thing to fault. And most importantly… the fresh grilled shrimp, still jumping around, were incredibly delicious. ㅠㅠ

Spacious terrace seating with a sea view
The restaurant itself was spacious and tidy, with lots of tables and wide walkways that made it easy to move around. Sitting on the terrace means you can eat while looking at the sea, and that somehow makes everything taste even better.

One grilled shrimp set and complimentary sides
Since it was just my husband and me, we ordered one grilled shrimp set. Live shrimp were swimming in the tank.

When you order grilled shrimp, seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), cheese tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and corn cheese come as complimentary sides, making lunch even more generous.

Ta-da, ta-da—the shrimp arrived. They were going absolutely wild, jumping around in the wide pot. ㅠㅠ As they jumped, they mingled with the coarse salt underneath and became perfectly seasoned. It had been such a long time since I had eaten salt-grilled shrimp, so my expectations were high.

Anything in season tastes best, after all!! Autumn shrimp are filled out and plump. We opened the lid, gave them a stir, and cooked the other side too.

My husband picked up the tools and grilled the shrimp well so they would cook evenly.

They were turning a lovely red. As the color deepened, that savory smell tickled my nose. I want to eat them, I want to eat them already ㅠㅠ The moment I said I was hungry, my husband’s hands started moving faster too. Haha. When I asked if we could eat them now that they looked so pretty, he told me not to touch them, peeled each one, and put them on my plate. Such a thoughtful husband!

Plump seasonal shrimp and butter-fried heads
They were not small shrimp but medium-sized ones. The instant I peeled one and put it in my mouth, there was this gentle scent of the sea—savory, sweet, and lightly salty. So delicious. This was the moment I understood why autumn shrimp are in season.

If you are visiting Geobukseom for a date or an outing, I recommend trying the grilled shrimp at 101 The Terrace Geobukseom Main Branch. The shrimp are fresh, with no fishiness at all, and delicious. They are so fresh that the chewy bite is just amazing.

For the heads, we made butter-fried shrimp heads^^ Ask a staff member for butter and they will bring two pieces. We melted the butter and fried the heads, and wow, these were another little marvel. Wow~~~ The nuttiness was the best^^ Butter-fried is always right.

My husband kept peeling and peeling shrimp! Officially crowned the handsome shrimp-peeling guy, haha.

Seafood kalguksu cooked after the shrimp
Once we had eaten a good amount of shrimp, we added the kalguksu noodles and got ready to cook the noodle soup.

There were lots of clams too, and they were fresh and chewy.

The clear broth was so delicious. It was not overpowering, and the broth infused with vegetables and seafood hit my taste buds perfectly.

The noodles were wonderfully springy and chewy too.

Shrimp that had taken a dip in butter—wow~~ they were seriously so good. Geobukseom is also a great place for a family outing, with plenty to see and eat, so be sure to try the grilled shrimp at 101 The Terrace Geobukseom Main Branch^^
