Weekday lunch gyukatsu with Isigny butter coating: Ichigyu Sinnonhyeon
In short
Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a personal mini-grill gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and steki (steak) restaurant a 3-5 minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 4 in Gangnam, Seoul. Visiting on a weekday at 11:30am, the writer ordered the gyukatsu set and steki set separately, added karaage and fried shrimp, and coated the grill with the provided 10g of Isigny butter in three small portions instead of all at once. Grilled just 7-8 seconds per side and topped with wasabi, the gyukatsu and buttery flavor made this a solid pick when you're tired of the usual smoky Korean BBQ joint.

Today I want to share a vivid review of a Sinnonhyeon restaurant I discovered while shopping near Gangnam Station on a weekday lunch a few days ago — great vibes, great food. I'd been tired of the usual pasta or pork belly outings, and grilling my own meat on a personal mini charcoal grill turned out to be genuinely fun at this real hidden gem, 'Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch.'

Location and date course route for Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon
Location: Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch, 19 Bongeunsa-ro 4-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, 2nd floor
This Sinnonhyeon restaurant is about a 3-5 minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9/Sinbundang Line) Exit 4, so it's extremely accessible by public transit. It's also close to the alley area behind the Gangnam Station CGV, making it perfect for pairing with a cute café or a stroll down Gangnam-daero afterward — a solid date course route.

Heading up to the 2nd floor of the building, you feel a cozy, tidy Japanese-style atmosphere right from the entrance.

Floor-to-ceiling windows, mini grill setup, and an 11:30am weekday visit
Stepping inside, the bright light pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows and the warm wood-toned tables made for a really pleasant space. Every seat has its own neat mini grill, and the tables are spaced just right for couples or friends to chat comfortably.

It gets crowded after noon, so I went in comfortably around 11:30am :)

Menu board and what we ordered
Looking at the menu on the table, gyukatsu is the base, with set menus (Set 1-4) that bundle in hamburg omurice, steki-don, and hotplate hamburg steak. These sets even include 2 drinks, so the value was great.

We wanted to really taste the meat on its own, so we ordered the signature 'Ichigyu gyukatsu set' and 'steki set' à la carte, plus crispy karaage & fried shrimp and a Zero Coke on the side.

This is Ichigyu's cast-iron grill! Cooking on this mini charcoal grill felt really fun.

Grilled mochi and cheese from the receipt-review perk
If you join the Naver receipt review event posted on the table (5-star rating + add to favorites) and show it to staff, you get free chewy grilled mochi (rice cake) and melty grilled cheese. Grilling the cheese on the leftover gyukatsu oil and butter makes for the perfect dessert — don't miss it!

They lit the grill first, then brought the rice! Rice refills are free, apparently :)
Steam rose as soon as we opened the lid. The rice was really good.

Gyukatsu: 7-8 seconds per side, a dab of wasabi
The gyukatsu — beef in a thin coat of breading, fried rare — had gorgeous rosy marbling.

I laid it on the hot mini grill with a sizzle, grilled exactly '7-8 seconds' per side as instructed on the sign, then topped it with a touch of wasabi. The rich beef juices bursting out of the crispy coating and the tender texture just melted in my mouth.

Sizzle sizzle, yum yum~

This is the steki set~

Karaage & fried shrimp — not just filler sides
The fried side dishes weren't just there for show either. The fried shrimp was impressively large, fried crisp from head to tail, and paired perfectly with tartar sauce, while the karaage was so juicy and tender that the chicken thigh juices dripped with every bite. Washing it all down with Zero Coke between bites, there was never a moment of feeling sick of it.

Personally I liked the fried shrimp even more — it was big, plump, crispy, and delicious.

We put the gyukatsu and steki on the grill together and cooked them side by side, sizzling away~

10g of Isigny butter, coated in three portions, not all at once
If you put the full 10g of Isigny butter on the grill all at once, it can burn. Instead, take small amounts each time you add meat (about three times) to coat the grill, and you'll get to enjoy that subtle, luxurious butter flavor down to the very last bite.

Brushing a bit of Isigny butter on before putting the steki on the grill lets that rich, luxurious milky flavor soak deep into the meat, giving it an umami level that rivals a dedicated steakhouse.

Final thoughts
'Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch' goes beyond the fun performance of grilling meat on your own charcoal grill, adding the kick of 'Isigny butter' to take the flavor quality up another level as a proper meat restaurant. Being able to control the doneness exactly how you want it and chat slowly over the meal made this a place I'd strongly recommend if you're tired of the loud, smoky feel of the usual Korean BBQ joint.
