A few days ago, on a weekday afternoon, I took a trip out to Seongsu to find a luxurious dessert for a dear friend whose birthday was coming up. Among the countless cafés out there, I did some serious research into Seongsu dessert spots known for high-quality premium cakes.
The place that caught my picky radar was Notldun, a genuine Seongsu dessert spot presenting pastries that look like works of art. From the deep flavor of French premium Valrhona chocolate to the luxurious packaging, I visited in person and put together this detailed, real gift-wrapping review!

Where Notldun is and how to get there
Notldun is on the 1st floor of 11 Seoulsup 2-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. It's about a 5-minute walk from Suin-Bundang Line Seoul Forest Station Exit 5 or Line 2 Ttukseom Station Exit 8, in the alley of the main Seoul Forest café street. The entrance is on the first floor but requires climbing about half a flight of stairs — the sleek red-brick exterior with floor-to-ceiling windows lets you see the clean interior from outside.

Inside Notldun: the room and the pastry showcase
Stepping inside, a very modern, calm space unfolds in white and wood tones. In the long showcase running down the center, desserts as intricate as jewels are displayed — it was a treat for the eyes.

On a nice day, sitting by the window with coffee and dessert like this would really feel healing.

True to its reputation as a dessert spot, people kept steadily coming in.

The showcase had a wide range, from mousse cakes showing off Notldun's signature shape to mille-feuille and baked goods.

Three Notldun desserts chosen as a gift
For a special gift, I picked out the 'Notldun Signature Noir' and 'Salty Caramel Mille-feuille,' both with clear brand identity, plus one of the madeleines.

The madeleine selection (₩35,000), made to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Valrhona's iconic dark chocolate 'Guanaha,' was a work of art in itself. Four madeleines sit inside a luxurious package, and the plump, perfectly baked domes and chocolate coating were striking.

Free dark chocolate latte for writing a review
As noted at the counter, they're running an amazing event where leaving a review gets you a free 'Valrhona Guanaha dark chocolate latte' (worth ₩10,000 on its own). It works whether you're dining in or taking out, so definitely take part and enjoy that deep chocolate latte flavor for free.

Notldun's baked goods boxes and drink menu
Along one wall, white-toned baked goods boxes in various sizes and paper shopping bags were neatly displayed, which gave a strong sense of trust to people like me visiting for a gift.

Looking at the drink menu, there were decaf options plus a full premium lineup — from the Valrhona Guanaha dark chocolate latte (₩10,000) to Mariage Frères and TWG tea.

There was also a box with a selection of 7 financiers, which looked like a solid, safe gift option too.

This is their most signature menu item — I picked it out the moment I saw it :)

The cooler bag Notldun packs desserts in
Here's the cooler bag for packaging! The bag itself was really pretty too — the design is genuinely lovely!

Too far to visit? Ordering from Notldun at Home
Good news for people like me who can't easily make it all the way out to Seongsu! The carefully made baked goods that have been so loved in-store can now be ordered comfortably from home through the 'Notldun at Home' online store. It looked great for ordering in bulk with a quick QR scan when preparing holiday gifts or thank-you presents for friends.

What the Salty Caramel Mille-feuille tastes like
The long, sleek 'Salty Caramel Mille-feuille' had a perfect contrast in texture.

The pastry layers, rich with buttery flavor, shatter crisply with dozens of visible layers, and the salty caramel cream filling in between delivers a textbook sweet-and-salty balance. Not a trace of sogginess — it was the essence of pastry.

Signature Noir, the cake that won the gift
The softness of French milk chocolate is joined by the nuttiness of American almonds, and the moment it hits your mouth, a smoky, mature whiskey aroma cuts perfectly through the chocolate's heavy sweetness. Not simple sweetness but a dessert with real depth — a grown-up dessert that got an overwhelming reaction as a gift.
Notldun wasn't just another ordinary bakery that's simply sweet — it was a high-end Seongsu dessert spot that carefully considers ingredient pairing, texture, and even the aesthetics of packaging.
