Milmyeon with cucumber option, double portion: Samsam Milmyeon

My husband and I went on an Ulsan date to soak up some weekday freedom.

After a drive, it was finally lunch time! Even though the hot weather had made us crave noodles, and now that it's a bit cooler he's still singing the milmyeon song, so we headed to this local favorite dumpling-and-milmyeon spot near Ulsan Terminal~

Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch location and parking

📍Where is Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch? Two minutes on foot from Ulsan Terminal. Walking from the Lotte Department Store toward the intercity bus terminal, it's on the first floor of a building among the restaurant row.

🚗Parking? There's no dedicated lot, but Daegyeong Parking and Paldo Paid Parking are right in front and beside the restaurant ⭕ A 1-hour parking ticket is provided if you eat in. No hassle even if you come by car.

1pm on a weekday, and the interior already has that famous-restaurant energy

We visited around 1pm on a Thursday. Even during weekday lunch hour, there were plenty of customers, which confirmed we'd found the right place on our first visit ✔ The tables were spaced generously, and it quietened down a bit once the lunch rush ended.

Most tables seat four, but there are also 2-person/solo-dining seats like this one, so busy office workers can come eat comfortably without feeling self-conscious!

A short menu: mul-milmyeon or bibim-milmyeon?

Mul-milmyeon | Bibim-milmyeon | Dumplings. With so few items, ordering was easy. Since I wanted to share with my husband, we ordered different dishes: double-portion milmyeon, double-portion bibim-milmyeon, and dumplings 💰₩26,000 for two.

Basic side dishes and galbitang broth

Pickled radish, sliced radish, and soy sauce for dipping the dumplings (📌perfect with the dumplings and milmyeon at this Ulsan Terminal favorite).

And a rich galbitang (short rib soup) broth. Hot soup with milmyeon? Odd, I thought — but one spoonful in, the deep savory flavor had me spooning it up nonstop. Samsam Milmyeon really knows how to make a broth, haha.

The double portion for ₩1,000 more — the amount is insane

Since the double portion was only ₩1,000 more, we naturally ordered it, but the portion was so huge we were surprised twice over, hahaha.

✅My order: mul-milmyeon. Two well-boiled bundles of noodles came with a spicy house sauce that whets the appetite. My husband cut it with scissors to make it easier to eat.

Half a boiled egg sat on top of the milmyeon, yum. Eggs pretty much all taste the same, right? Hahaha. The yolk was a bit dry, but dipping it in the milmyeon sauce made it just fine.

Milmyeon, which I craved so badly even in the hot weather, still tastes amazing now that fall has arrived. I've been to a few famous milmyeon places, and 📌Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch's flavor is definitely cleaner.

It comes topped with meat, so it feels generous in amount too? I grabbed some with my chopsticks and the noodles were seriously springy. I get why people line up for this.

Time to try the dumplings this Ulsan Terminal favorite is known for. They arrived moist right after ordering, one plate with 8 pieces total.

You could tell the skin was thin just by looking — the filling was slightly visible through it. Too hot to eat right away, so we waited for the heat to die down before taking a bite: the skin was chewy, and the juices burst out!

Bibim-milmyeon: choose cucumber or not, and the spice hits late

Next time I visit, I'm getting two bibim orders!

🍽️My husband's order: double-portion bibim-milmyeon, ₩10,000 (same price as mul-milmyeon). The noodles came pre-mixed with sauce, topped generously with thinly sliced cucumber.

When ordering, there was an option to choose cucumber or no cucumber. Since we love cucumber, we picked it without hesitation 🥒 There weren't a ton of other special ingredients, but with so much cucumber the texture was crisp and the overall flavor felt refreshing — genuine umami.

But as we kept eating the bibim-milmyeon, 🚨the spiciness hit us late? We're a low-spice-tolerance couple, so it caught us off guard a bit, but it was still delicious enough to keep eating, hehe. The gochujang-based sauce is really my style, ㅠㅠㅠㅠ💕 and when it got too spicy, a spoonful of the galbitang broth fixed it perfectly...! We thoroughly enjoyed the dumplings and milmyeon at this Ulsan Terminal favorite.
