Hey everyone! Today I'm bringing a real find I stumbled on while on a date around Yongsan Electronics Market. Usually when people think Yongsan dates, they think Yongridan-gil or I'Park Mall, but this time we had errands to run around the electronics market area, so we looked for something nearby. This is Jjigaen Jjukkumi, already famous as a Yongsan spicy octopus restaurant!
To cut to the chase: this was such a good spicy octopus date spot to fill up on before or after browsing the electronics market with your partner. Here's my honest review.
What's the lunchtime vibe like at Jjigaen Jjukkumi Yongmun Market Branch?
Jjigaen Jjukkumi Yongmun Market Branch is a griddle spicy octopus restaurant on Wonhyoro 41-gil, close to Yongmun Market. When we visited during lunch, plenty of people were already digging into the lunch special!

Being so close to Yongmun Market, it clearly has a lot of regulars. It was nice seeing the owner chatting so casually with customers while taking orders! There's a lunch special, but since we wanted to properly enjoy the octopus, we ordered the griddle spicy octopus with pork belly!

🌶️ Signature menu review: spicy octopus with pork belly for two + cheese fried rice

The table setting came out right after ordering. Bean sprout side dish and a mayonnaise + flying fish roe sauce — clean and no-frills.

We ordered the spicy version, and this sauce made it even more enjoyable!

The pork belly and octopus set out on the griddle after ordering was overwhelming just to look at. The savory pork belly ringing the edges and the octopus tossed in bright red special sauce in the middle came together beautifully, and cooking it down over high heat was half the fun.
The savory fat rendering off the pork belly mixing with the sweet-spicy octopus sauce, mid-stir-fry.

The visuals alone are insane, right? As it cooks over high heat the sauce reduces down thick, and you eat it further simmered down — just looking at it made my mouth water.

Egg custard to tame the spice
The fluffy egg custard is an essential side dish. It's seasoned just right and so soft that it completely neutralized the spice.

It's so soft and fluffy — perfect for soothing your stomach before diving into the spicy octopus!

Perilla leaf wraps and mayonnaise sauce combo
Spread out a perilla leaf, top it with a piece of savory pork belly, chewy octopus, and crunchy bean sprouts — the sauce is just spicy enough without being overwhelming, so you can keep eating without getting tired of it!

The octopus is great wrapped, but dipping it in the mayonnaise sauce doubles the savoriness. The mayo's richness also tones down the spice — the combo is great, so give it a try!
How many rounds of cheese fried rice should you get?
K-dessert cheese fried rice

Fried rice is the finish for this kind of griddle dish. The octopus sauce was so good there was no way we weren't getting fried rice. Usually people just order one round, but somehow I felt like I'd regret only getting one, so we got two — and it was absolutely the right call.

The owner fries it for you when you order, and the portion was surprisingly huge, but the highlight — fried rice — is never skippable, plus we added extra cheese.

She stir-fried rice and seaweed flakes into the leftover sauce, then generously piled mozzarella cheese on top. Topping it with this snowy cheese meant the sauce soaked into the cheese too, making it even better.

The cheese melted down and stretched long with the rice — the combo of savory salty cheese and spicy fried rice was truly a perfect K-dessert. I saw the portion size and thought there's no way I could finish it, but I ate every bite... My stomach was pretty full, but I couldn't put the spoon down and scraped the griddle clean.

And here's me earlier, wrapping the fried rice in a lettuce wrap like a true K-food champion.
Would I recommend it as a date spot around the electronics market?
If you're looking for a good meal before or after running around the electronics market, I don't think there's a better choice than this! Having so many regulars tells you the food quality is guaranteed, so I highly recommend trying the variety of octopus dishes at Jjigaen Jjukkumi, a Yongsan spicy octopus favorite! (Spicy octopus places are getting harder to find these days, sadly.)
