Korean restaurant near Seongsan Ilchulbong, Jeju: 9 side dishes

Hey guys~ On this Jeju trip we stopped by Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch, which is famous for its braised hairtail (galchi-jorim) and sits right near Seongsan Ilchulbong!!

Every single side dish was neat and tasty, and the black pork stir-fry we ordered as the main was such good quality that this place instantly became somewhere I want to come back to next time I'm in Jeju haha.

Where is Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch? Hours and parking

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is at 101 Sinyang-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju, 1st floor, and it's open 08:00–21:30, with last order at 21:00. There are 2 free parking spots behind the restaurant, and when those are full you can park on the road in front.

We visited Cheonghaewon after hiking Seongsan Ilchulbong, legs completely worn out and starving!! We parked on the road in front and walked in~!

Inside Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon: seating and souvenirs at the counter

Inside Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch there's group seating as well as tables for four. It's a good fit for families, couples, or friends.

You can probably tell from the photos, but the place was kept really clean — even the floor was gleaming haha.

At the counter they also sell various Jeju souvenirs~ mostly kid-friendly snacks like jellies and ppuchigi (chewy Korean taffy). Oh, and they said the soy-marinated crab (ganjang gejang) can be shipped nationwide, but it's genuinely delicious here so definitely try it in person haha.

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon set menus A to D and how to order

Jejurowoon's set menus can only be ordered for 2 people or more. Since most people seemed to order sets, we went with a set too.

• Set A: Braised hairtail + grilled tilefish + stone pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup
• Set B: Braised mackerel with kimchi + grilled tilefish + stone pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup
• Set C: Grilled tilefish + stone pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup
• Set D: Black pork stir-fry + stone pot rice + soy-marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup

Besides that, the à la carte menu had abalone seafood hot pot, abalone porridge, and sea urchin seaweed soup, and add-ons included grilled tilefish, soy-marinated crab, stone pot rice, plain rice, and drinks/alcohol~

You check off what you want on the checklist on the wall and show it to staff — order done!! We'd come planning to eat braised hairtail, but suddenly craved black pork stir-fry so we ordered Set D! And added a grilled tilefish on top~

What are the 9 side dishes?

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch started us off with a full side dish spread. Soy-marinated crab, fish cake, seasoned greens, ssamjang (dipping sauce), diced radish kimchi, pickled onion, seasoned seaweed, corn salad, and lettuce — a whopping 9 side dishes laid out haha.

And every single side dish tasted like it was made with real care, like something your mom would make — total rice thief, you end up scraping your rice bowl clean haha.

Then came the grilled tilefish we added, plus the main dish, black pork stir-fry!! First thought the moment it arrived: the portion is seriously huge haha. It's even bigger in person than in photos, and it comes basically piled up in a pot haha. Plus the piping hot stone pot rice~ haha, this is the best.

The fresh grilled tilefish had zero fishy smell and thick, generous flesh — really delicious.

Seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup: which should you pick?

You could choose the stew as either sea urchin seaweed soup or seafood hot pot, and we went with the seafood hot pot!! Packed with crab, shrimp, clams, mussels and vegetables, with such a refreshing broth — I highly, highly recommend the seafood hot pot!!

The black pork stir-fry is the kind of deeply sauce-soaked, sizzling dish that would put a trucker's diner to shame — total rice thief, the kind of thing where guys would clean out two bowls of rice.

That guy was, of course, my boyfriend hahahahaha. He cleaned out the stone pot rice too, and apparently even made himself a proper sungnyung (scorched rice tea) from the leftover crust haha.

He scraped clean everything from the side dishes to the main dish to the stew and gave a big thumbs up saying he really enjoyed it haha. My boyfriend is picky about food, so if he's this satisfied, this place is officially a certified must-eat spot!!!

Is Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon worth a return visit?

100% would return. Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch, the Seongsan restaurant famous for braised hairtail!!! We'll be back next time we're in Jeju~
