Korean restaurant in Seongseo, Daegu with private rooms: Sin Yeongung

In short

Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch is a Korean restaurant on Seongseogongdan-ro in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, specialising in cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste) seafood hot pots. On a weekend evening with their parents, the writer ordered the haemuljjim (spicy steamed seafood) group menu and the signature live abalone cheonggukjang seafood hot pot, and sat in a space divided by table partitions and half-wall rooms that kept the family meal quiet. The seafood was generous and the seasoning was not overly spicy, making Sin Yeongung an easy recommendation for a meal with parents.

A weekend dinner with my parents at Sin Yeongung in Seongseo, Daegu

I went down to Daegu this weekend to see my parents! I was trying to figure out what delicious thing to eat, and ended up deciding on haemuljjim (spicy seafood boil), which my parents love haha. So the place I found was Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch, a spot with a good word-of-mouth reputation near the Daegu Moda Outlet!

What is parking and the dining room like?

Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch has its own dedicated parking space out front plus a public parking lot right behind, so it was really convenient to get there by car. And they even cover the public parking fee!

The huge sign out front made it super easy to spot from the exterior! Being the country's only cheonggukjang seafood hot pot specialty restaurant had me excited before I even walked in haha.

Not only was there parking right in front, there was also a huge public parking lot right behind, so I had zero worries about parking! Honestly the best setup for anyone visiting by car haha.

At the entrance there was a standee showing it had been on TV — a genuinely good restaurant! Knowing that Lee Seung-yoon of Naturalist fame had approved of the place bumped up my trust in it before I'd even eaten haha.

Interior with wood-tone decor and partitioned seating

Partitioned tables and half-wall rooms for family gatherings

Once inside, the restaurant was really clean, decorated in a wood-tone interior that felt upscale! Every table had good partitions, which made it perfect for an intimate family meal.

There were also room-style spaces where you could separate the area with movable walls! Highly recommend it for family gatherings or group get-togethers.

I sat down and read through the menu carefully! They had everything from various types of hot pots to bibimbap and pork cutlet. Since we came as a group, we ordered the seafood boil from the group menu and the signature live abalone cheonggukjang seafood hot pot!

What side dishes come with the meal?

Basic side dishes: stir-fried fish cake and diced radish kimchi

After ordering, neat and tasty-looking basic side dishes were set out! The perfectly seasoned stir-fried fish cake and the crunchy diced radish kimchi got my appetite going.

The salad with its refreshing, delicious dressing and the spicy red pepper-doenjang mix were also great! You could feel the care put into every single side dish.

And ta-da! The main dishes we ordered all arrived! The table was so packed it looked like it might collapse under the weight, ㅠㅠ.

How is the live abalone cheonggukjang seafood hot pot?

Live abalone cheonggukjang seafood hot pot boiling

First up was the live abalone cheonggukjang seafood hot pot, arriving still bubbling! The savory cheonggukjang aroma mixed with fragrant minari (water dropwort) smelled amazing from the start. The pot was genuinely packed with fresh seafood — crab, shrimp, clams, mussels. The savoriness of the cheonggukjang combined with the refreshing seafood broth made for a truly rich soup, ㅠㅠ.

Scooping up a spoonful of warm rice, soaking it in the broth, then topping it with a plump bean and a clam — absolutely amazing! It felt like everything just opened up inside me, and the plump shrimp were in there too, so I picked every last bit off diligently! Not a hint of fishiness, just so savory, ㅠㅠ.

How spicy is the haemuljjim, and does staff prep the seafood?

The seafood boil (haemuljjim) at Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi wasn't too spicy, so even my parents ate comfortably. A staff member cut up the bigger seafood, like squid and octopus, into easy-to-eat pieces for us.

Look at those crunchy bean sprouts, all coated in sauce, ㅠㅠ. The sauce wasn't overly spicy — just the right amount of kick that made it really moreish!

Chopsticks picking up an octopus leg

I picked up a piece of the chewy, plump octopus leg and popped it in my mouth — the texture was amazing! The more I chewed, the more the savory flavor burst out haha.

Picking the meat out of the big scallop shells was also fun! The sauce was so good that it had seeped all the way into the seafood.

Webfoot octopus and bean sprouts picked up together

Grabbing a bite of the chewy webfoot octopus along with the crunchy bean sprouts all at once felt like having the whole world! Anyone looking for a Korean restaurant in Dalseo, Daegu should absolutely try this.

To finish, we peeled the shells off the plump shrimp and ate up, wrapping up a totally satisfying meal!

Is Sin Yeongung a good place to take your parents?

I brought my parents along, and both of them enjoyed the food so much that I felt weirdly proud and it made for a great day! The food was tidy and the seafood so fresh that I'd be 1000% willing to come back on my next visit to Daegu haha. If you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, or a good spot near the Daegu Moda Outlet, I highly recommend Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch!
