I was looking for a café in Yangjae where I could enjoy good coffee and good bakery items together, and that's how I ended up at Mini Male Coffee Roasters Yangjae Main Branch. Mini Male is known for roasting its own specialty coffee, so it's a place regular coffee lovers seek out — and sure enough, when I visited it was absolutely packed. The space isn't huge, but takeout and delivery orders kept pouring in nonstop; it's clearly a latte hotspot.

How close is it to Yangjae Citizens' Forest Station?

Walking in, coffee beans, bakery items, and gift sets catch your eye first. Mini Male is known for roasting specialty-grade coffee scoring 80+ points, and its signature menu item is the Helsinki Latte.

They must get a lot of group orders too, since group discounts and gift wrapping sets were also on display. What I ordered was

What does the signature Helsinki Latte taste like?

One of the menu items I was most curious about at Mini Male was the Helsinki Latte. It's their flagship signature drink, and drinking it, I found it a bit different from a typical sweet latte. Soft milk flavor hits first, followed by a deep coffee taste, so it wasn't sickly sweet — the nutty, smooth quality of the milk really shone through. If you prefer a smooth, nutty latte over one where the coffee tastes overly bitter or strong, this one will suit your taste well.

I noticed other visitors to Mini Male frequently mention the Helsinki Latte as a favorite too. After trying it myself, I got it — I could see why it's the signature item. If you're hunting for a good latte in a Yangjae café, this is one I'd recommend. Honestly, I regretted not trying this delicious Helsinki Latte sooner, and it was a shame that Mini Male only has locations around Gangnam. If there were one near my place, I'd go every day!

Strawberry Fruit Latte, the drink chosen for our child

We also ordered a Strawberry Fruit Latte together. These days Rian gets her own drink whenever we go to a café, and originally I wanted to order the babyccino Mini Male Coffee Roasters offers — but Rian, deep in her sweets phase, kept chanting for strawberry juice, so I gave in and ordered this instead. Thankfully, the syrupy sweetness was milder than expected, with plenty of that nutty milk flavor coming through.

From the bakery menu, I also ordered the original levain cookie.

Baked to an appetizing golden brown outside, with that dense, chewy texture unique to levain cookies inside — it paired well with coffee, as expected. Especially after a sip of strong coffee followed by a bite of the levain cookie, the sweetness came through nicely, making for a perfect little dessert moment. I appreciated that Mini Male offers homemade bakery and dessert items alongside its coffee.

🥐 Salt bread

For anyone who loves bread, the salt bread was hard to pass up, so we ordered that too. Salt bread has that clean yet nutty flavor that goes so well with coffee.

Rather than eating only sweet desserts back to back, adding a plain bake like salt bread rounds out the combination nicely! Paired with the Helsinki Latte, the nutty flavors matched really well.

Lastly, the one I was most curious about — the original babka. Babka is a layered bread with sweet flavor woven through, making it great with coffee, and the original babka let you enjoy the bread's own flavor together with the sweetness, so it worked well like a dessert.

We ordered several different bakery items that day — levain, salt bread, babka — and each had such a distinct style that it was fun picking through them one by one.
