Sinnonhyeon jazz bar with a daytime trio and table hand cream: Flat
In short
Flat Nine is a live jazz bar and dining pub on the 5th floor of a bar alley between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a weekend afternoon visit, the classic course for two was upgraded with white truffle lasagna for an extra 4,000 won, and the Choi Myeongji Trio played about eight songs across two sets just in front of the table. With hand cream on every table and mouthwash in the restroom, Flat Nine works well as an anniversary date spot in Gangnam.

This time I visited Flat Nine, a place in Gangnam where you can enjoy a proper meal while listening to live jazz. I had no idea a jazz bar with this kind of atmosphere existed in the middle of the bustling Gangnam Station bar street — it was a genuinely fresh shock. It's great for couples looking for a Gangnam Station bar or a good pasta spot, but it's also perfect if you want a Sinnonhyeon date that's a bit different from the usual. The atmosphere itself is special, so if you're weighing options for a Gangnam anniversary date or a Gangnam birthday spot, this is a good bet for a memorable day.

Flat Nine sits in an alley packed with bars between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon, an area I've walked through many times before. I never imagined such a lovely jazz bar was hiding around here! From the outside it looks like an ordinary Gangnam bar alley, but once you step inside, a completely different atmosphere unfolds — which made it even more charming.

It felt like finding a hidden gem in the middle of crowded Gangnam! There can be a wait during busy hours, so I'd recommend booking ahead.
How to check the Flat Nine live jazz schedule
Flat Nine posts a month's worth of performance schedule outside. It's also listed as a notice on Naver Place, so you can check if your favorite musician is playing. I didn't plan around a specific artist, but it happened to be a day with the Choi Myeongji Trio ✨
Seats that face the Flat Nine stage
The moment I opened the door, the mood completely shifted and I was met with an elegant interior. Most seats are set for two, all arranged to face the performance area. Usually when you sit face-to-face, one person's neck ends up hurting from twisting to see — but here, the seating is optimized for watching the show, which was comfortable and thoughtful 🥹👍
Even though I visited during the day, the interior was blacked out to block light, so you couldn't tell what time it was at all! There's also a bar table, which looks great for coming alone in the evening for a drink while watching the show.
Thanks to the soft lighting, it felt like a proper jazz bar experience even in broad daylight. The calm, upscale atmosphere suits a special occasion like a Gangnam anniversary date or Gangnam birthday. The instruments were only just being set up before the show, but the mood was already gorgeous and refined.
Hand cream on every table at Flat Nine
Don't be fooled by the jazz performances — this is by no means lacking as a dining spot! The basic table setting is clean, with proper plates and cutlery like a real Western restaurant.
What touched me was that every table had a fancy hand cream. I've never seen this at any other restaurant! Even the scent was subtle and upscale, which made my memory of this place even better.
Ordering the classic course for two
You order via the tablet placed at each table. It was nice to be able to take my time browsing without pressure. The first screen shows notices — the live music charge, jazz performance etiquette, corkage policy, and more.

The menu has both course and à la carte options. You don't have to order food — drinks alone are fine too! We ordered the ✔️ classic course for two. The difference from the signature course is whether the steak is pork or beef.
The classic course comes in this order: aperitif - potato mille-feuille (amuse-bouche) - carpaccio salad & bread - pasta - steak - dessert. You choose the aperitif (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and the pasta (white truffle or basil tomato). We paid an extra ₩4,000 for the white truffle pasta.

There are plenty of à la carte options not included in the course choices. Octopus, gambas, and other elegant dishes that pair well with wine. There are lots of light options even if you've already eaten, so it also seems like a great spot for a second-round gathering.

There were also quite a few unusual cocktails. With this kind of atmosphere around you, it's hard not to order one of these gorgeous cocktails.. 👍
Aperitif and potato mille-feuille to start
The first thing to arrive was the aperitif — cranberry, raspberry, mint, and lemon topped with sparkling wine. Served in a cute glass, it's exactly the kind of thing to whet your appetite. It came out incredibly fast, so there was no time to feel like the meal was slow to start!
There it is ✨ Sweet and tangy and delicious, and after a small sip I was already craving more, eager to move on to the next dish.

A potato dish called the amuse-bouche. Thinly sliced potatoes stacked in layers and fried crispy, topped with lemon butter, shiso, and chervil.

It's easiest to describe as a swirl of potato. Because the layers are stacked thin like a mille-feuille, peeling them apart layer by layer and biting into them was a fun texture experience. The savory potato aroma was great too, and it was surprisingly filling — this course definitely counts as a real meal.
Squid and Korean melon carpaccio with grilled focaccia
The seasonal salad was a squid and melon carpaccio. Thinly sliced smoked squid, melon, and pickled radish, paired with a charred paprika sauce.
The sauce's yellow color suits summer perfectly. It looked so pretty that I kept taking photos of it. The squid was chewy and fresh, and the melon, eaten this way, wasn't as sweet as expected — the ingredients paired surprisingly well as a salad.
Then came the baked bread. Focaccia fresh from the oven, with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze.
The ingredients weren't anything fancy, but this warm bread with its golden crust was so delicious — I kept reaching for more 🥹

White truffle ragu mille-feuille lasagna
And now, the star of the show — the pasta, truffle white ragu mille-feuille lasagna. According to the description, layers of ragu, béchamel, and cheese are stacked between sheets of fresh pasta, then baked twice — once in a pan and once in the oven.

Upgrading to the white truffle version was definitely the right call. The richness of the cheese and the softness of the cream were wonderful. The ragu's distinctive meaty bite was substantial too, making this one of the best lasagnas I've had in a while.

Adding a Margarita Classic cocktail
And because the atmosphere was too~~ good, we ordered an extra cocktail. We got the Margarita Classic, which isn't included in the course.

This was the cocktail my companion ordered, and taking a sip, it was quite a strong one. The lime and the salt on the rim paired nicely with the drink's bitter edge.

Jeju black pork tenderloin steak
Then the final steak arrived. According to the description, this used dry-aged Jeju black pork tenderloin grilled over binchotan charcoal, served with mango purée and pepper jus.
I didn't expect much since it was a pork steak, but because it was sous vide, it was incredibly moist and tender... It was the most tender pork I've ever had, with a texture that rivaled beef!

The sauce was savory and salty, pairing perfectly with the meat, and the mushrooms were grilled so well and full of juice that even eating them alone was a chewy delight.

House-made chocolate cake for dessert
And the final course — dessert. A house-made chocolate cake. It's more dense and fudgy than a typical cake, so 'brownie' might be a more fitting name.

The cream cheese on top and the house's signature chocolate were truly luxurious. The cream cheese sauce in particular had a salty note, which deepened the flavor when eaten with the sweet chocolate cake. The scattered nuts added a fun crunchy texture too.
What the Choi Myeongji Trio show was like
Needless to say, the performance was great.. 🥹 This time it was the Choi Myeongji Trio performing. They played jazz standards along with original songs, about 8 tracks across two sets. It was jazz with a lead vocalist, which made it accessible and just right for my ears — the vocalist's voice was so much my taste that I'd want to come back if they perform again.
Live music up close is on a whole different level from speakers. The drum and piano improvisation was fun too, and the whole atmosphere was great.
A 10-second taste of the performance. I thought jazz varies so much internally that it really comes down to personal taste, but that day, a musician exactly to my taste happened to be there, and my ears were thoroughly spoiled alongside the meal. Her voice was so lovely, with a slightly soulful, weighty tone that suited the jazz perfectly. The kind of thing you want to save and listen to again at Christmas.. 👍
Restroom amenities and the weekend happy hour
Another touching detail 🥹 The restroom had mouthwash, cotton pads, and cotton swabs available. The seats are already so close together that turning your head means you're practically face to face with the next table, so having mouthwash on hand felt incredibly considerate. The soft music playing in the restroom was a nice bonus too!
Until 6pm on weekends is happy hour, offering 30% off cocktails and a live music charge discounted from ₩15,000 to ₩10,000. I visited on a weekend afternoon, and it was great regardless of the time of day — but it's nice to be able to enjoy this kind of discount event too. There was even a sparkling wine given out for a review event.. 👍
Is Flat Nine worth a Gangnam date night?
I thought it would just be a jazz bar with a good atmosphere, but the food was genuinely delicious too, which made Flat Nine even more memorable. Being able to enjoy live jazz right in front of you while slowly working through a course meal is a charm that's hard to find at other Gangnam Station bars. From the truffle lasagna to the moist black pork steak, every dish was satisfying, so this isn't just a place to come for the show — it's somewhere I'd want to return to for a proper meal. If you're after something more special than a typical date, a Sinnonhyeon dinner date with a twist, or searching for a Gangnam anniversary date or Gangnam birthday spot, this is a Gangnam Station restaurant worth knowing.
