Yeonnam-dong monjayaki restaurant, 5-minute timer mentaiko mochi: Jojo
In short
Jojo Yeonnam Branch is a Japanese teppan restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, serving monjayaki, okonomiyaki and yakisoba. Two friends ordered the mentaiko mochi monjayaki (19,500 won) and karai yakisoba (14,000 won) for 36,500 won total; a staff member cooks the monjayaki right on the teppan and leaves a 5-minute timer, and you start eating once it rings. Cooked until golden and crisp it tasted best, and Jojo Yeonnam Branch even carries the mood of a trip to Japan.

A long-overdue Yeonnam-dong date with a friend today haha. I heard there's a place in Yeonnam-dong serving monjayaki, that hot Tokyo specialty, so I had to check it out. Starting my review of Jojo Yeonnam Branch, a great Japanese spot in Yeonnam✨

What kind of restaurant is Jojo Yeonnam Branch?
Jojo Yeonnam Branch was already well known as an okonomiyaki spot in Yeonnam-dong, and I'd been before and loved it! I didn't realize it was actually the restaurant of the teppan master chef who appeared on Culinary Class Wars Season 2..!

I already knew it was good, but knowing it's the Culinary Class Wars chef's place made me even more excited haha

Shall we go on in? Haha
Inside Jojo Yeonnam Branch: nickname flags and the stamp coupon
📍Interior
The moment I stepped into Jojo Yeonnam Branch, the interior made me feel like I was actually in Japan. Each table had its own teppan with that Japanese aesthetic, and there were window seats too — someone was sitting there so I couldn't get a photo, but I'd highly recommend it to anyone missing a Japan trip 👍

On top of that, Japanese songs were playing as BGM, so the vibe was already perfect haha. And here's another cute thing about Jojo Yeonnam Branch — you get to pick your own table nickname

You have to write your nickname on this paper to order, and later your dish comes out with your nickname on it — so cute haha
They also had a coupon that stamps once for every ₩10,000 spent, so you get perks with repeat visits — don't miss it‼️

Jojo Yeonnam Branch menu and what two people ordered
📋 Menu
True to a great Yeonnam Japanese spot, they had all kinds of classic Japanese teppan dishes. The menu ranged from their famous okonomiyaki to yakisoba and the newly launched monjayaki, plus set menus with a discount for groups

For anyone unfamiliar with monjayaki, they even kindly wrote out how to eat it the tastiest way 👏

📍Price: ₩36,500 total for two
- ✔️ Mentaiko mochi monjayaki ₩19,500
- ✔️ Karai yakisoba ₩14,000
- ✔️ Zero cola ₩3,000
Since we'd already tried okonomiyaki last time, we decided to try the new monjayaki this time. And to keep things from getting too rich, we ordered the spicy karai yakisoba 🔥
Every table had extra sauces on hand, so you could add more if it wasn't enough

How the mentaiko mochi monjayaki and karai yakisoba tasted
The monjayaki ingredients arrived first ✨ with the nickname we'd picked earlier cutely stuck in — my friend loves dogs so we went with a dog theme haha

Cheese comes standard with the mentaiko mochi monjayaki, so you don't need to add it separately

A staff member cooks the monjayaki for you, so no need to worry! Next up, the yakisoba ✨

Doesn't this look totally like something from Japan haha. It was packed with shrimp and meat inside!

Loaded with ginger too haha

The karai yakisoba had that classic yakisoba base with a sharp, savory kick added, not too spicy so it was easy to eat without feeling overwhelmed. Personally, if you like spicy food I'd highly recommend the karai yakisoba 👏
When do you start eating the monjayaki?
At Jojo Yeonnam Branch, a staff member cooks the monjayaki right on the teppan for you, and they hand you a 5-minute timer — eat it when the timer goes off. Then it's monjayaki time ✌️ watching the staff member cook it up haha

Swish swish swish, it gets mixed together, and finally they top it with mochi and cheese to finish the monjayaki ✌️

So when do you eat the monjayaki?! Right when this timer they give you hits 5 minutes haha

My personal tip: it's tastiest when you let it cook until it's golden and crispy like this haha

Best time to visit Jojo Yeonnam Branch
A brief successful trip to Japan, right here in Hongdae's Yeonnam-dong ☺️ Recommending Jojo Yeonnam Branch for when you want that Japan-trip atmosphere at a great Yeonnam Japanese restaurant, when you're near Hongdae Yeonnam craving monjayaki, yakisoba, or okonomiyaki, or when you want to taste the Japanese cooking of a Culinary Class Wars chef. Review over ✌️
Overall verdict: recommended for a great Yeonnam Japanese restaurant when you want both the atmosphere and the taste of Japan‼️
