Dongtan pork cutlet spot for eating out with kids: Insaeng Donkatsu

Today I'm sharing a review of Insaeng Donkatsu in Dongtan, which I visited with my kid! Pork cutlet is one of the safest picks when eating out with a child, right? I went in just expecting a casual cutlet meal, but there turned out to be more special menu items and a more distinctive vibe than I expected, so it stuck with me.

Insaeng Donkatsu: a Japanese-style pork cutlet restaurant in Dongtan Mokdong

Insaeng Donkatsu Dongtan Mokdong Branch is open every day from Monday to Sunday, 10:50 to 21:00. Break time runs 15:30–17:00, and last order is at 15:00 and 20:30.

The first thing that caught my eye when I walked in was the interior — it genuinely felt like I'd traveled to Japan.

There were little Japanese-style props scattered around, so it felt less like an ordinary pork cutlet place and more like stumbling into a small Japanese eatery.

These days, going out with a kid means I naturally pay attention to the atmosphere as much as the taste, and this place was fun just to look around. It's like getting a little taste of Japan without having to travel far — right here in Dongtan, haha.

What seating at Insaeng Donkatsu works best with a child?

Inside Insaeng Donkatsu Dongtan Mokdong Branch, there were various tables to match different party sizes, like 2-seat and 4-seat tables. Near the window there were also bar seats, good for solo visits or a quick meal.

Since we came with our kid, we sat at a table with sofas on both sides — the seats were roomier and more comfortable than regular chairs.

Especially when eating out with a kid, you end up thinking about the kids' chair or where to put your bags, right? The tables were generously sized too, so having two dishes on the table and eating with my child wasn't cramped at all. Every table also had a tablet for ordering, so I could browse the menu slowly and order right from my seat without flagging down staff — really convenient.

The green chairs and white tables gave off an old-school Japanese Yōshoku diner feel, matching the whole restaurant's distinctive interior. The tables also weren't packed tightly together, so even with a kid in tow, we could eat fairly comfortably :)

How the Insaeng Donkatsu menu differs from an ordinary pork cutlet place

Insaeng Donkatsu had not just the basic cutlet dishes but a lot of unusual combinations. There were dishes I don't often see, so I spent a while deciding what to order.

Here's what we ended up ordering!

• Okonomiyaki pork cutlet
• Seafood tomato pasta

At first I was really curious about a pork cutlet place also selling okonomiyaki (savory pancake) pork cutlet and seafood tomato pasta — what a combo. My kid likes both pasta and cutlet, so being able to order both was great.

Okonomiyaki pork cutlet: what it tastes like

The dish I was most curious about was the okonomiyaki pork cutlet! With okonomiyaki's signature sauce and toppings piled on top of the cutlet, it looked totally different from a regular pork cutlet from the start. If you like both okonomiyaki and pork cutlet, this combination is worth trying at least once.

The crispy cutlet paired with the sweet-savory sauce gave a taste that was both familiar and new. And the cutlet was so crispy that, together with the cabbage, broccoli, and bonito flakes on top, it felt much heartier than eating a plain cutlet.

Seafood tomato pasta for 13,900 won, easy to share

Ordering just the cutlet alone could get a bit heavy, but pairing it with the tomato-sauce pasta made for a perfect back-and-forth. The tangy tomato sauce also went well with the cutlet's savoriness.

It was packed with seafood too, so there was plenty to chew on, and when I tasted it I thought, this is ₩13,900?! ... T_T (meaning it was that delicious and that generous a portion, haha). My kid ate both dishes well, so I'd recommend this restaurant for a family meal out.

Is Insaeng Donkatsu worth it for a family meal in Dongtan?

Honestly, I went in just planning to have a casual cutlet meal with my kid, but between the Japanese-feeling interior and special items like the okonomiyaki pork cutlet, it ended up being more fun to look around and eat than I expected.

The pairing of cutlet and okonomiyaki was fun, and the not-so-ordinary atmosphere and menu made this Dongtan pork cutlet spot stick in my memory. If you're looking for a restaurant to take your kid to in Dongtan, or a pork cutlet place with a bit of a twist, it might be worth a visit :)
