Jeonju Korean BBQ with an unlimited self-serve bar: Seongsan Jejutgan
In short
Seongsan Jejutgan Jeonju Sin-sigaeji is a Jeju-themed black pork restaurant in Hyoja-dong, Jeonju, right in front of the Kolon Sky Apartments. The visit covered one serving each of gabrisal (pork neck cut) and galmaegisal (pork skirt meat), eaten with an unlimited self-serve bar of wrap vegetables and side dishes, and ended with a complimentary ice cream. The self-serve bar at Seongsan Jejutgan was the best-stocked one seen at any Korean BBQ restaurant so far.

Today I got a real taste of Jeju vibes about 100m in front of the Kolon Sky Apartments in Jeonju Sin-sigaeji, at Seongsan Jejutgan, a Hyoja-dong restaurant channeling Seongsan, Jeju.
Address: 69-9 Hongsanbuk-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk, South Korea, 1st floor / Hours: Mon–Thu 16:00–02:00 next day, Sat–Sun 11:00–02:00 next day / Last order: 01:00 / Parking: public parking lot in front of the store
One menu you can't skip on a Jeju trip is Jeju black pork. This time I visited Seongsan Jejutgan, near Seongsan, where you can really feel the Jeju atmosphere.

What does Seongsan Jejutgan Jeonju Sin-sigaeji look like from outside?
This Hyoja-dong restaurant has such a strong Jeju feel right from the entrance that I felt like I was on a trip before even walking in. The stone walls, dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statues), and thatched-roof-style interior really captured that distinct Jeju atmosphere. Even the store name itself is full of Jeju charm, so it was great for photos too.

Inside: a dining room styled like Jeju
Stepping inside Seongsan Jejutgan felt different from the exterior. Neatly arranged tables and interior touches evoking Jeju caught my eye everywhere, and each table had a grill and ventilation system, making for a comfortable meal.

On the walls were paintings of Jeju scenery and phrases that let you soak in the Jeju travel mood while eating. Seongsan Jejutgan explains that it uses Jeju-raised black pork and carefully selected domestic pork, aged through a cross-aging method that alternates wet aging and dry aging.

What's on the self-serve bar and side dish spread?
Seongsan Jejutgan offers standard side dishes plus a separate self-serve bar. Side dishes are essential when eating meat. From the start, a variety of dishes were neatly laid out — namul (seasoned vegetables), kimchi, pickled vegetables, and seasoned items that go well with grilled meat.
What I especially liked was the separate self-serve bar, where you can freely grab whatever vegetables or side dishes you need. From wrap vegetables like lettuce and perilla leaves to various accompanying dishes, there was plenty to mix and match with each bite of meat according to your taste.
What I ordered was one serving each of gabrisal (special cut) and galmaegisal.

How do the gabrisal and galmaegisal taste?
At this Hyoja-dong Jeju black pork restaurant, the meat itself is the star! Watching it sizzle away on the grill naturally gets your appetite going. Jeju black pork has a chewy texture and savory flavor as its charm, and paired with the various side dishes and sauces, each bite tasted a little different.
Dipping it lightly in salt to taste the meat on its own, or wrapping it in lettuce with garlic and side dishes, was also a treat! Black pork eaten in Jeju always feels tastier thanks to the atmosphere, and it seems the same holds true here.
Seongsan Jejutgan runs on the concept of letting you feel Jeju's atmosphere without having to actually visit Jeju, and it states that it serves carefully selected Jeju-raised black pork along with domestic pork.
If you're craving black pork during a Jeonju trip, this Hyoja-dong restaurant, Seongsan Jejutgan, stood out for letting you soak in a Jeju travel feeling from the exterior to the interior atmosphere, along with the variety of side dishes and the self-serve bar. You can enjoy delicious black pork and take photos in a space full of Jeju charm, making it a great meal stop during a Jeonju trip.

Free extras: hair ties and ice cream
Nice touch from the owner. Since long hair falling down gets hot while eating meat, they have hair ties on hand so you can tie your hair up while eating.

After the meat, the meal wraps up with an ice cream service. Left full and satisfied. Among all the Korean BBQ restaurants I've been to, this is the first place I've seen with such a well-organized self-serve bar. I'd love to visit again.
When you're craving a proper black pork meal in Jeonju, try a table full of Jeju charm at Seongsan Jejutgan.
