On a day when I was craving a hot bowl of soup, I went looking for a good sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) restaurant in Guwol-dong, and ended up at Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Guwol Moraenae Market Station Branch.

Where is Yennal Gyeongseong near Moraenae Market Station?

Yennal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Guwol Moraenae Market Station Branch is located in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, right near Moraenae Market Station, so it's a great spot to grab a meal while browsing the market.

There was a bench out front for anyone who might have to wait!!

True to its name, this place specializes in sundae-guk, so it's a good spot when you're craving a bowl of soup rice — and I noticed they also have samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), gopchang jeongol (grilled intestine hot pot), and bone hot pot, among other dishes.

It seemed like a great spot for lunch or dinner, especially on days when you want something hot and filling. And apparently, during the current event period, ordering any menu item comes with a free tasting portion of chapsundae (glutinous rice sausage)!

Inside the restaurant: seating and facilities

Walking inside, it had that comfortable, no-fuss vibe typical of soup restaurants, which made it easy to relax and eat. It felt like a clean, welcoming space, fine whether you're eating solo or with family and friends.

At a soup restaurant, fast service and a comfortable atmosphere for a quick meal matter a lot, and overall this place let you focus on your food without distraction.

The restroom is outside and passcode-locked! And there's a mixed coffee vending machine for after your meal!

Aside from the side dishes brought out at first, you can grab more from the self-serve bar if you run low!

Ordering spicy sundae-guk, the pyeonyuk-sundae set and samgyetang

The menu features the signature sundae-guk along with samgyetang, gopchang jeongol, bone hot pot, and other soup dishes. This time, out of everything, I ordered the spicy sundae-guk, the pyeonyuk-sundae set, and samgyetang.

You order using the tablet at your table!~

Salt, pepper, and chili oil are already set on the table~ and once you order, they bring cheongyang peppers, dadaegi (chili paste), salted shrimp, and perilla powder. You just add whatever suits your taste.

The basic side dishes were seokbakji (radish kimchi), napa cabbage kimchi, onion, cucumber peppers, ssamjang, and salted shrimp. The seokbakji was so good I kept going back for refills haha.

Pyeonyuk and sundae, plus the free chapsundae

The pyeonyuk (boiled pork slices) and sundae from the set arrived, along with the complimentary chapsundae tasting.

Both had no off-putting smell and were nice and chewy — really tasty haha.

How was the spicy sundae-guk?

The dish I was most looking forward to this meal was the spicy sundae-guk. If you're normally a fan of sundae-guk, the clear broth is great too, but sometimes you crave that sharp, spicy kick — and this was exactly that kind of day.

The spicy sundae-guk came with a hot broth full of sundae and other fillings, filling enough on its own for a whole meal. Mixing rice into the soup really brought out that signature hearty flavor of a good guk-bap (soup rice).

Adding the pyeonyuk and sundae on the side instead of just eating the broth gave a nice mix of textures. If you're on the fence about a side dish with your sundae-guk, ordering the set is a good call.

And because the broth was so spicy, it hit way harder in the best way than if I'd just gotten the basic version!

What is samgyetang like at a sundae-guk restaurant?

The other dish I ordered was samgyetang. Being able to get samgyetang at a sundae-guk restaurant felt like a nice surprise. Hot broth with chicken was exactly what I wanted for a filling meal.

Especially on a day when you're craving a warm bowl of soup like this, the samgyetang was quite satisfying. With the chicken, the broth, and rice on the side, it made for a plenty filling meal.

Ordering both the spicy sundae-guk and samgyetang at one table and sharing let us try two different dishes at once, which was great. There was also fun in going back and forth between the deep, spicy sundae-guk broth and the mild, hearty samgyetang.

Despite the very reasonable price, it was packed with all kinds of medicinal herbs, which made it feel extra nourishing haha.

If you're looking for a good soup restaurant in Guwol-dong, this is one I'd recommend! From the spicy sundae-guk to the pyeonyuk-sundae set and the hearty samgyetang, it was a great spot to enjoy a hot meal.
