Guwol-dong à la carte pasta for two with perilla bulgogi: Withwich

This time I was looking for somewhere in Incheon that serves brunch, pasta and sandwiches all together, and I landed on Withwich in Guwol-dong! The name might make you think it's a sandwich-only spot, but the restaurant actually sells pasta, pizza, salad and drinks alongside its sandwiches. Let's get into it!

What do the exterior and interior of Withwich look like?

Withwich looks like a really spacious spot even from the outside, good for a family visit too.

Given the name Withwich and the sandwich photo hanging outside, you'd think it only sells sandwiches, but it actually offers a range of menu items — sandwiches, coffee, pasta and pizza.

Walking in, the first thing that caught my eye was a bunch of autographs from celebrities who had visited.

The kitchen is an open kitchen, so you can watch the food being made, which felt reassuring! Plus the space is large with a separate table for five or more, great for bigger groups. There were actually families with young kids eating there while we were, and since the restaurant has a high chair on hand, they seemed to be having a comfortable meal.

I thought it could work for all kinds of visits — a date, a meal with friends, a family outing.

Three à la carte plates for two: the food at Withwich

We ordered the spicy perilla leaf bulgogi sandwich, arugula arrabbiata pasta, and gambas oil pasta. We went with à la carte items this time, but Withwich also has set menus combining sandwiches and pasta, so it's worth checking those out too.

Oil pasta can sometimes feel greasy after a while, but Withwich's version was a flavor I kept going back for.

The gambas oil pasta had nicely cooked shrimp and wasn't as greasy as I expected, so I could keep eating it. I think it's because the shrimp, basil and mushrooms strike a good balance and come together well.

The arugula arrabbiata pasta had a light kick of spice that put me in a good mood. Because it includes arugula, compared to a standard arrabbiata it had an extra vegetal note, giving a richer, more varied flavor in the mouth.

The spicy perilla leaf (kkaennip) bulgogi is a sandwich with various vegetables and bulgogi packed between baguette bread. It has the sweetness of bulgogi, the fragrant perilla leaf, and a subtle spiciness on top. With plenty of vegetables inside, the texture is great.

At first I thought we might have ordered too much for two people, but the pasta was so good we kept eating! The shrimp, mushrooms and arugula were all delicious, so even after finishing the noodles, I kept going back for more.

Who is Withwich in Guwol-dong best for?

Withwich is open from the morning and sells sandwiches, coffee, pasta, pizza and salad, so instead of a place specializing in just one dish, it leans more toward a brunch-style menu lineup. With more people, you could add a pizza and share the menu. Because of this setup, I think it's a good choice for all sorts of occasions — dates, gatherings with friends, family meals.
