If you want a proper old-school gyeongyang-sik (Western-style Korean) pork cutlet near Hyochang Park, Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is worth a visit. These days there are so many Japanese-style katsu specialists that this old-fashioned style of pork cutlet actually felt refreshing.

I ordered the Onjeong curry pork cutlet and the green tangerine cold soba. Two big cutlets came with rich curry, so the portion was pretty generous, and since rice was freely available at the self bar, it made for a hearty meal.

What really stood out was that soup, morning bread and strawberry jam all came together, giving off exactly the vibe of the old-school Western-style restaurants I remember from childhood. The curry wasn't overly sweet or sour either — it had a rich flavor that went well with both the cutlet and the rice. If you're looking for a good pork cutlet spot near Hyochang Park, this one is worth trying at least once.

There's a big window on one side of the restaurant that lets in plenty of light, and there are seats dedicated to groups of 3–4, so it also works well as a family dining spot near Hyochang Park. If you want a hearty pork cutlet meal after a stroll through the park, this is a good place to keep in mind.
Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang near Hyochang Park Station: old-style pork cutlet, not Japanese katsu
This is Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, near Hyochang Park. It's a place where you can get handmade pork cutlets.

Ever since the show Golmok Sikdang made Yeondon famous, pretty much every pork cutlet place seems to have switched over to katsu. Maybe that's why this old-style gyeongyang-sik pork cutlet feels precious. Though lately it seems like these old-style pork cutlet places are popping up again.

What comes with the Onjeong curry pork cutlet, from soup to morning bread
I ordered the Onjeong curry pork cutlet and the green tangerine cold soba. Usually on a first visit I go for the basic option, but the curry cutlet in the menu photo looked especially delicious. Here's the curry cutlet.
Along with the cutlet, several other things came out well. First, the soup — you can't skip that at an old-school Western-style place.

The texture was a bit thin, but it had a strong mushroom aroma. The cutlet also came out as two big pieces.

Rather than an underwhelming portion, I think it's better this way — nice and generous. Here's the thickness.

It wasn't a curry sauce — it was actual curry.

It had a really rich flavor without any sourness, which suited my taste well. And curry goes so well with rice, doesn't it?
This place has the advantage of letting you freely grab rice from the self bar. For dessert, there was strawberry jam and morning bread too.

It perfectly recreated the old-school Western-style meals I had as a kid. I don't have a son, but if I did, this is a place I'd definitely want to bring him to.
How does the green tangerine cold buckwheat soba taste?
Next up is the green tangerine soba.

Green tangerine sits right on top like this. Even so, the aroma wasn't overpowering — it was a tangy, sweet, delicious buckwheat noodle dish.
The weather's been warming up a lot lately, but it's still a bit hot during the day. This is exactly the kind of dish to cool off with when that happens.

Anyway, I ate well again today. I hope you all eat well too and have a happy day.
