There's a great donkatsu (pork cutlet) spot in Yongsan for a solo lunch that kids absolutely love too — Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang (온정경양식당). So let's kick off this review of the donkatsu specialist near Hyochang Park!!
Why Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang suits a solo lunch in Yongsan
Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is a Western-style (gyeongyang-sik) pork cutlet restaurant that's perfect for eating alone in Yongsan. Donkatsu is a dish everyone loves regardless of age or gender, and it's such a great solo-dining choice, right?

If you need lunch in Yongsan and you're flying solo, Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is such a great choice!!

Since it's gyeongyang-style donkatsu, you get soup, a wide flat cutlet, and the option to add udon or soba depending on your taste — a great Yongsan solo-lunch spot haha. Thick Japanese-style katsu with pink juices and wasabi has become the trend lately, but sometimes you really crave that old-school gyeongyang-style plate — meat pounded wide enough to cover the whole dish, drenched in sauce, cut with a knife. Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is exactly that kind of place.
Is there parking? Free parking at the Richensia basement lot
Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is a Yongsan spot where, if you park in the Richensia building's basement lot and dine, you get free parking support. Parking underground and getting parking support after the meal made things really convenient in every way.
Getting to Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang by subway
Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is easy to reach whether you're coming from Hyochang Park Station on Line 6, Namyeong Station on Line 1, or Samgakji Station.

One menu item per person, but rice refills are unlimited
Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang requires one menu item per person — but in exchange, rice refills are unlimited.

Gyeongyang-style donkatsu is the main event, but there are several versions like cheese donkatsu, spicy donkatsu, and curry donkatsu!!

From the basic gyeongyang-style donkatsu to the Onjeong spicy donkatsu with its spicy, smoky edge, to the cheddar cheese donkatsu piled high with bright yellow cheese, this place serves a wide variety of gyeongyang-style donkatsu. With generous portions and reasonable prices, it's a Yongsan donkatsu restaurant that satisfies all kinds of needs, for all ages.

Inside Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang and its self-service corner
Open the door and step inside, and you're greeted with a bright yet warm modern interior blending wood and white tones. Thanks to the soft indirect lighting and clean wall finishes, it's a comfortable environment whether you're a solo Yongsan lunch guest quietly eating alone, or sitting down comfortably with coworkers or friends.

There's a self-service corner set up in one part of the restaurant where you can help yourself to side dishes like kimchi and pickled radish, along with as much rice as you want. Thanks to that, you always leave Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang full and satisfied. That's probably why it's so popular among people coming for a solo Yongsan lunch.
Is Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang's pork cutlet good for kids?

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is a great Yongsan spot to eat with kids. If you ask kids what their favorite food is, donkatsu is definitely up there!! With gyeongyang-style donkatsu, dinner rolls, and soup all together, it's such a perfect combo for eating with kids.

A warm cream soup and the basic side dishes were served first, neatly plated. The pale, creamy soup wasn't runny like water at all — when you stirred it with a spoon, it had that thick, traditional texture.
Onjeong spicy pork cutlet: hotter than expected
The spicy donkatsu turned out to be way spicier than I expected.

I tried the Onjeong spicy donkatsu first, which stood out with its striking reddish hue. At first glance it looks similar to the basic donkatsu, but the sauce is a deeper, more intense red, and as you get close to the plate you catch a subtle, sharp chili aroma. The moment I cut off a piece and took a bite, the first taste was the savory smoothness of the sauce, followed by a spicy kick rising up the back of my throat. It wasn't the artificial, numbing burn of capsaicin, but a deep, heavy spiciness that was really delicious.

How did the basic Western-style pork cutlet taste?
I tried the basic gyeongyang-style donkatsu, which is really the foundation of this restaurant. Pork loin pounded thin and wide with the grain kept intact, coated in breadcrumbs and fried until crispy, then generously topped with a glossy, deep-brown house-made sauce. When I cut into it with a knife, the top layer had soaked up the sauce and cut smoothly, while the bottom of the breading still kept a crisp texture with a satisfying crunch.
The thinly pounded loin had no tough sinew at all and chewed with a soft, fluffy texture, and the breading didn't separate from the meat — they stuck together and went down smoothly in one bite. It was really filling and satisfying!

Cheddar cheese pork cutlet: how the cheese is layered on top
Finally, I tried the cheddar cheese donkatsu, which catches the eye with melted yellow cheddar cheese draped dramatically over the sauce. Unlike the more common cheese donkatsu where mozzarella is stuffed inside the meat, this one was made by laying thick slices of rich cheddar cheese over the top of a widely fried cutlet, melting it softly, then finishing it off with sauce. It's rich and gooey, genuinely delicious, and totally my style.
If you're near Yongsan and want to enjoy nostalgic gyeongyang-style donkatsu in a clean, comfortable, and orderly atmosphere, Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is a great spot to stop by and fill up on a solid meal.
