Bueokgan, the Sangmu district brunch spot, is a European restaurant with a Rome hotel concept, and Gwangju has two locations — ✔️Suwan branch and Sangmu branch. While the Suwan district branch feels like a cute date spot, the Sangmu branch is a bit grander and more spacious, which made it feel great for 🧑🧑🧒🧒 group gatherings and family meals!

Bueokgan, the Sangmu district brunch spot, is known as one of Gwangju's 🍝 leading pasta restaurants and is designed around an Italian vintage classic 🏨 hotel concept. Visiting in the evening made the atmosphere even more special, and I liked that it's set a little away from the busy Sangmu district streets, so it's great for eating at a more relaxed pace!

Group tables for wedding-invitation gatherings

Bueokgan, the Sangmu district brunch spot, has plenty of group seating inside, so I thought it would be great for family meals and group gatherings, and especially! 💌 for wedding invitation meetups — it's really a Gwangju spot suited for that kind of get-together.

At Bueokgan Sangmu Branch, every table has its own tablet PC, so I was happy that I could check the menu and order easily.

The three dishes I ordered at Bueokgan, the Sangmu district brunch spot, came out in the order of napa cabbage caesar salad → pasta → pizza, but they were prepared almost simultaneously, which was great.

Bueokgan's portions tend to be generous across the board, so it would be great to come in a group. It's a good place to order a variety of dishes and share, and thanks to the nice atmosphere, there were quite a few people out on dates or group meals.

Napa cabbage caesar salad, 16,000 won

Bueokgan's 🥗 napa cabbage caesar salad is the restaurant's signature dish — grilled napa cabbage topped with sun-dried tomatoes, bacon chips, onion flakes and plenty of cheese, with a dressing that has a nutty, savory-salty flavor as the highlight! The texture of the napa cabbage was great too, the portion was generous, and the combination of the toppings and sauce piled on top was so good — I really hope you try it.

Basil pesto cream pasta with poached egg, 18,000 won

Bueokgan's 💚 basil pesto cream pasta comes topped with a poached egg, and you can choose whether to have the egg or not. Even though it's a cream pasta, it wasn't heavy at all, and the basil pesto aroma was amazing! Breaking the poached egg made it even creamier, and it paired well with the rocket on top :) Anyone who loves basil will absolutely love this.

Basil margherita wood-fired pizza, 19,000 won

Bueokgan has quite a few wood-fired pizzas, and among them I chose the most classic one — the 🍕 basil margherita pizza! On the dough there's a basil pesto base topped with roasted tomatoes, making it a dish that's light and pleasant to eat. The dough had a crispy outside and a chewy inside, and it was also delicious dipped in the basil pesto cream pasta sauce!

At Bueokgan Sangmu Branch, a brunch spot in Gwangju, every dish was delicious, but among them the savory depth of the napa cabbage steak really stood out! Bueokgan has two locations, Suwan branch and Sangmu branch, plus branches nationwide, so feel free to visit whichever is convenient for you :)
