Yeouido IFC Mall tteokbokki spot revisited years later: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) restaurant in the underground passage between Yeouido Station and IFC Mall in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Returning after a few years away, the writer ordered the Hyeonseoni Set at 23,000 won in medium spice, which brings tteokbokki, sundae (blood sausage), mini gimbap and assorted fritters; the fritters came out crisp and the tteokbokki tasted savory rather than just hot. The portion is generous for two, so the set is the way to order at Hyeonseonine.

I visited this place a few years ago and thought it was delicious — and it's still running in the same spot! Which means business has stayed steady and it's still consistently good.

Where is Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch?
Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch sits in the underground passage that connects Yeouido Station to IFC Mall and The Hyundai. You can spot it right away just from the mascot character, haha.

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch

You can really feel that "deliciously spicy" thing once you actually eat it, haha. You order at the entrance kiosk and just take whichever seat you like. Even while we were eating, takeout customers kept coming in and dine-in customers never stopped either.

Inside Hyeonseonine: atmosphere and seating
Since Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch also sells instant tteokbokki, the tables come with built-in burners — though we didn't use ours today since we got a regular tteokbokki set. As it says on the wall, they started as a street cart tteokbokki stand back in 2004, and all their current branches are directly operated rather than franchised! That's probably why the taste stays consistent across locations.

The place isn't huge, but outdoor seating is available, and since we came during a later lunch hour there was plenty of space. There's a decent mix of 2-seat and 4-seat tables, so it works whether you're coming alone or in a group.

What to pick up at the self-serve bar
Each table has tissues tucked in the drawer, and utensils, wet wipes, and small plates are all at the self-serve bar!

At this self-serve bar you can grab pickled radish, salt, and soy sauce, plus small plates and utensils. It actually felt more neatly kept than I expected.
Menu at Hyeonseonine: instant tteokbokki, sets and the beer set
Besides the sets, they also sell tteokbokki à la carte, and the instant tteokbokki comes standard with rice cakes, fish cake, jjolmyeon noodles, yakimandu, and egg, with the option to add extra ingredients or cheese! I tried the instant tteokbokki at another branch before, and it was a solid, no-frills version that tasted great.
And for people who have trouble deciding, they sell a variety of set menus too. On top of that there's a beer set that pairs beer with tteokbokki! Beer with tteokbokki sounds like it would genuinely hit the spot — feels like it would cut right through that slightly greasy edge!!

There's also a review event where you can swap in a rice ball or fried rice cakes! Since it's a tteokbokki place, the fritter options were pretty varied too — even a fried pepper option, which must take a lot of effort to make, is on the list!

What comes in the 23,000-won Hyeonseoni Set
The Hyeonseoni Set arrived looking seriously hearty. Tteokbokki, sundae, mini gimbap, and fritters all together for ₩23,000! Given today's prices, this feels like a genuinely good deal for a set menu! The portion was really generous and satisfying for two people to share.
The bowl holding the tteokbokki was really deep and packed full, and the red sauce looked properly spicy!

There's mild, medium, and hot, and even though we ordered medium — the middle level — it still looked spicy. The gimbap came out glossy with oil, giving off a lovely nutty smell! The sundae came generously loaded with liver and lung too, wrapped carefully in plastic, probably to keep it warm. The fritters came as a mixed assortment — vegetable, sweet potato, kimmari (seaweed noodle roll), squid, and dumpling.

How do the medium-spice tteokbokki and fritters taste?
One bite of the tteokbokki was spicier than expected, but it wasn't just heat — there was real savory depth to it, a spicy flavor that actually made you want more! The fritters looked like they'd been fried twice, but they weren't soggy at all — nice and crisp, perfect for dipping into the tteokbokki sauce. The gimbap was genuinely unassuming in flavor, but the more you chewed, the nuttier it got, and I kept reaching for more!

Hyeonseonine, which started in Yongsan, now has branches all over! They sell both instant and regular tteokbokki, plus ramyeon and other snack menu items, so it works whether you're eating solo or coming as a family to share a set! And honestly, whatever the tteokbokki flavor, it's always good><
