Bib Gourmand jokbal restaurant in Jamsil Saenae, Seoul: Manjok Ohyang

In short

Manjok Ohyang Jokbal Jamsil Sincheon Branch is a jokbal (braised pig's trotters) restaurant in the Jamsil Saenae food alley in Songpa, Seoul, picked for the Michelin Guide Seoul Bib Gourmand nine years running. The half-and-half jokbal (medium) plus jaengban guksu (cold noodle platter) set came with complimentary tteok-manduguk (rice cake and dumpling soup) and beer, and the pairing of clean-tasting jokbal with sweet-spicy fire jokbal was the highlight. Manjok Ohyang Jokbal is a good call after a baseball game, when cold beer and jokbal are all you want.

I'd been craving chewy, tender jokbal (braised pig's trotters) for a while, so I headed to Manjok Ohyang Jokbal in Jamsil Saenae! Manjok Ohyang Jokbal has made the Michelin Guide Seoul Bib Gourmand list for 9 years running, and it's famous as one of Seoul's top three jokbal restaurants.

Beyond the tender jokbal, they also have jokbal-bossam, half-and-half jokbal, and other options, so it's easy to pick according to your taste. The tteok-manduguk (rice cake and dumpling soup) that comes with the jokbal and the tangy-sweet naengmyeon-style noodles with cabbage made the meal even better!

The restaurant is also spacious and comfortable, so it looked great for gatherings with friends or company dinners. Today I'll introduce the dishes I enjoyed at Manjok Ohyang Jokbal Jamsil Sincheon Branch!

The inside of Manjok Ohyang Jokbal Jamsil Sincheon Branch felt cozy and welcoming. When I visited, there were plenty of international visitors as well as groups having company dinners! The space is spacious with lots of tables, making it perfect for group gatherings and dinners.

Beer and soju display prepared at the restaurant

They also have a wide selection of beer and soju. Jokbal and bossam just aren't complete without a drink, right? If you're craving cold beer and jokbal after watching a baseball game, I recommend Manjok Ohyang Jokbal Jamsil Sincheon Branch!

The free tteok-manduguk that comes with every table

A pot of complimentary tteok-manduguk

At this jokbal restaurant in Jamsil Saenae, tteok-manduguk (rice cake and dumpling soup) comes free of charge. Sometimes when I eat jokbal elsewhere, I miss having something soupy — but here my favorite tteok-manduguk comes free, and in a generous portion, kept simmering warm the whole time! Total hit for my taste, haha. Perfect as a side for drinks too ♥

Side dishes served with the jokbal

A spread of basic side dishes including white kimchi and pickled radish

These are the basic side dishes: white kimchi, pickled radish, spicy radish salad, salted shrimp sauce, ssamjang, and pickled cabbage. Essential companions to jokbal and bossam.

Half-and-half jokbal (medium) + jaengban guksu set

Table setting with medium half-and-half jokbal and jaengban guksu set

We ordered the set menu: half-and-half jokbal (medium) plus jaengban guksu (noodles on a tray). My partner is pretty sensitive to the smell of jokbal and usually can't eat it, but the jokbal here at this Jamsil Saenae favorite is tender and odor-free, so they ate it happily! The tangy-sweet jaengban guksu also comes in a generous portion and pairs really well with jokbal — perfect as a set.

Half-and-half jokbal: plain jokbal and spicy fire jokbal

Can you see how tender this looks? So soft and moist — really delicious! No off smell at all, and a flavor you don't get tired of, haha.

Can you see how juicy the lean meat is?? I love jokbal and have tried many places, and this one is truly excellent!

Close-up of sweet and spicy seasoned fire jokbal

Plus the fire jokbal was just the right amount of spicy and sweet — such a great kick. Right when the regular jokbal starts to feel a bit much, the fire jokbal wipes that away completely, haha. I definitely recommend trying the fire jokbal!!

Jaengban guksu, the generous cold noodle platter

Jaengban guksu piled high with fresh vegetables

The jaengban guksu has plenty of vegetables and a sweet-tangy sauce, and it paired perfectly with the jokbal. Delicious yet a great way to get fiber in — bibim-style noodles are the best for that, haha.

Jaengban guksu mixed and eaten wrapped with jokbal

I mixed it all up and wrapped it neatly with the jokbal to eat. It's the kind of flavor that people of all ages just can't dislike!!

Cold beer with delicious jokbal — how could that combo not work? This is a Jamsil Saenae jokbal favorite I think I'll be visiting often during baseball season. If you're craving cold beer and jokbal, I recommend giving it a visit.

From the soft, chewy jokbal to the powerhouse side dish jaengban guksu and the complimentary tteok-manduguk — overall, I had a very satisfying time at Manjok Ohyang Jokbal Jamsil Sincheon Branch! It's a solid, filling meal whenever you're craving jokbal, and since the space is spacious and comfortable, I'd also recommend it for gatherings with friends or company dinners. If you're looking for a great jokbal restaurant or a spot for drinks in Jamsil Saenae, give Manjok Ohyang Jokbal Jamsil Sincheon Branch a try :)
