Opening-time sushi in Songdo with dad, ₩19,900 takeout: Sushi Doku

Hi everyone, it's Tangerine-eating Bear. I usually eat mostly salads and meat, so suddenly I was craving sushi so badly that I went with my dad to Sushi Doku, a place near Songdo famous for its premium sushi~

You have to park in the dedicated Onesta parking lot to get 2 hours free. I forgot to do that and just walked out, so make sure you give your car number to staff for free parking~ Reservations are available for groups of 6 or more, just so you know.

Already 10 people waiting at the 11am opening

We went right when they opened at exactly 11am, but sure enough, since it's a famous sushi spot, about 10 people were already waiting haha. Some people got to sit comfortably on chairs while we stood and waited haha. Meanwhile everyone in line gathered in little groups (?) to check out the menu together lol.

Customers ranged from kids to elderly folks. One great thing here is you can get takeout, and the premium sushi set takeout drops all the side dishes and comes out to just ₩19,900 for sushi only, which is really good value. I should have gotten sushi to take home too haha. So disappointing ㅎ

What's on the menu

The menu is broadly split into sushi sets, sashimi, and à la carte dishes. I just now noticed the assorted tempura ㅜㅜ if I'd seen it then, I would have definitely ordered it to share. Make sure you order the shrimp tempura as a side here!! It's genuinely delicious.

The refined premium sushi set, 10pc

I ordered the 'refined premium sushi set, 10pc.' The sushi came with flounder, red seabream, salmon, squid, sweet shrimp, akami (lean tuna), red shrimp, snow crab, eel, and ankimo (monkfish liver), plus sides of salad, udon, soft chawanmushi, shrimp tempura, and karaage — a really solid spread. I usually eat a lot, but this was so generous I actually had to leave some haha. Even a grown man could come here and eat plenty without going hungry.

Doesn't the sashimi look fresh just from the photo? The eel is huge so the eel sushi really stands out haha. And the eel was grilled just right with no burnt spots. Can you see how glossy the shrimp sushi on top is?... ❤

I was going to pick a favorite piece, but honestly they were all great lol. I really care about freshness of ingredients, and the sashimi here was in great condition and, most importantly, had no fishy smell. The texture was chewy and good too. Though I've personally never liked ankimo sushi, so I gave mine to my dad and he ate it happily haha. My dad's usually a picky eater but he finished everything.

Shrimp tempura and karaage, the sides are legit too

Oh right, I thought Sushi Doku was only good for its sushi... but no way..... the tempura was so crispy and delicious too ㅠㅠ If I'd known, I would've ordered more tempura ㅜㅜ Especially the shrimp tempura was absolutely golden — the shrimp were plump and fresh, so I tried to steal my dad's and got stopped........... The karaage was also really tasty haha.

There's something about Sushi Doku's sense of detail, haha. The udon had a cute Nemo-shaped fish cake in it, which was fun to look at, and the chawanmushi had shrimp in it, soft and delicious haha. The premium sushi set is really excellent from the sushi to the sides haha.

Receipt review event and final thoughts

Oh, one more thing — if you leave a receipt review by September 30, they'll give you free otoro sushi, so make sure to try it!! I was too full to do it ㅜㅜ so disappointing.

When you go to pay at the end, there's a cute sushi keyring on display ㅎ. The space has an upscale yet comfortable vibe, so it seems like a great spot for a relaxed meal with a partner, family, or friends.

This is a premium sushi place I'd love to come back to haha. Next time I'll definitely bring you a review of the tempura and the full premium sushi set haha. If you're looking for a fresh, delicious sushi spot around Songdo, I highly recommend a visit!
