Taiwanese beer and paper-lined duck pancakes at Gang's Duck, Suwon
In short
Gang's Duck is a Chinese dining restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, in the alley behind the Homeplus near Suwon City Hall Station. A half Peking duck, yu-xiang eggplant (eggplant in garlic-chili sauce) and Taiwanese beer arrived with live carving at the table and sheets of parchment slipped between every wheat pancake, which erased the memory of the dry Peking duck eaten in Hong Kong ten years earlier. For a stylish date or a special Chinese dinner in Suwon, Gang's Duck is the answer.

The memory of a disappointing Peking duck from a Hong Kong trip 10 years ago, wiped clean in a single bite — Gang's Duck, a Suwon City Hall restaurant

So, 10 years ago I went to a famous Peking duck restaurant in Hong Kong, and the pancakes were thick and the duck was dry — I was so disappointed that my whole family basically stopped even looking at Peking duck after that. But my boyfriend had never tried it and had been curious for ages, so I figured it was time to give it another shot. I looked around and found a Peking duck place in Ingye-dong, and we went. The result? An absolute total success! The location is Ingye-dong, but the vibe and service were on par with Gangnam. Here's my honest review of Gang's Duck, a Suwon City Hall restaurant 🤍
Where is Gang's Duck in Suwon, and what are the hours and booking rules?

A Chinese dining room in Ingye-dong with Apgujeong-style looks and attentive service

Gang's Duck sits in a somewhat quiet alley behind the Homeplus near Suwon City Hall Station. The moment we saw the restaurant, both my boyfriend and I gasped — a place like this exists in Ingye-dong?

The overall vibe was hip yet quiet and upscale, almost like being at a high-end restaurant in Apgujeong, Seoul. We visited the day before a holiday, so I half expected it, but sure enough — every table was already fully booked.

One thing that impressed me the moment we arrived: each table had the reservation holder's name displayed. These little thoughtful details made us feel taken care of even before the meal started, and it put me in a great mood right away.
Note: for Peking duck or dongpo-yuk, you need to pre-order at the time of reservation so you don't have to wait once you arrive!

We'd already pre-ordered a half Peking duck, and added yu-xiang eggplant and beer to cut through the richness 🍺
Live duck carving and the paper-lined pancake setting at Gang's Duck

There's an open kitchen space at the end of the hall that functions like a live station, where you can watch the chef carve the Peking duck right in front of you in real time!

It was my first time actually watching someone carve Peking duck in person — the knife work was fascinating, and with the visual entertainment on top, the wait was never boring at all. My boyfriend was so intrigued he watched the whole thing, haha.

While we were watching, the half Peking duck we'd been waiting for finally arrived at our table!

Here's another example of Gang's Duck's genius attention to detail — a sheet of parchment paper was slipped between each and every wheat pancake so they wouldn't stick together...🥹❤️ Thanks to that, the pancakes didn't tear and were so easy to peel off one by one to wrap the duck.
Crispy skin, juicy meat: how to wrap the Peking duck pancakes

The server explained how to eat it: dip the duck skin in the middle in sugar first, then wrap the rest of the meat in a thin wheat pancake with sauce, cucumber, and shredded scallion. (Vegetables, pancakes, and sauce are all refillable as much as you want!)

The moment I dipped the skin in sugar and popped it in my mouth, the thin, crispy skin burst with savory fat that blended perfectly with the sweetness of the sugar! I expected it to be greasy, but wait — this is actually delicious?

Then I wrapped the meat with sauce and shredded scallion in a pancake and took a bite... wow, this was nothing like the dry, heavy Peking duck I remembered from 10 years ago. The meat was genuinely moist and tender, and the pancake was so thin it barely tasted of flour, so I just kept wrapping more and more — it was addictive. I almost felt cheated out of 10 years of Peking duck I could've been eating this whole time ㅠㅠ
Yu-xiang eggplant and Taiwanese beer to cut the richness 🍺

No matter how delicious the beef or duck is, you can get a little sick of it if you keep eating, right? The move that reset the whole vibe was the yu-xiang eggplant and Taiwanese beer we added on.

The eggplant came out plump, thickly fried, and generously topped with spicy-sweet yu-xiang sauce. Eating it fresh and hot, it was moist with a bit of a kick that completely cut through the richness of the duck. We'd once ordered yu-xiang eggplant in Apgujeong and gotten some kind of sweet-and-sour eggplant instead, which was so disappointing. We both took one bite here and immediately went, yes, THIS is it!

And this was my first time trying Taiwanese beer! Gang's Duck's beer menu only had two non-domestic options, and when I asked AI about it, it said this Taiwanese beer had a subtle sweetness and a slightly fuller body, so I ordered it. It washed away that heavy, rich flavor typical of Chinese food with its carbonation, and it had a genuinely pleasant sweetness. First time trying it, and it was a total win for my taste.

While we were still enjoying our meal, the staff brought out a complimentary dish — leftover duck bits from serving the Peking duck, fried and dusted with something like cumin. This was my first time trying that particular dish, and it made a perfect beer snack. By the time we finished that too, we were both completely full. The staff were all so kind, and my boyfriend's first-ever Peking duck experience ended in a total success — it made for a proud and happy evening 🤍

Who is Gang's Duck in Suwon best for?
Gang's Duck, a Suwon City Hall restaurant, completely washed away 10 years of Peking duck trauma! The atmosphere, the taste of the food, the thoughtful service, and the live carving performance — nothing was lacking. My boyfriend was so satisfied that I'm now thinking, instead of the usual boiled chicken we always eat on Boknal (the hottest days of summer) next year, maybe I should bring my parents here for something different and impressive: Peking duck 🌿 If you're looking for a stylish date spot or a special Chinese dining experience, I highly recommend Gang's Duck!
