Rather than the typical loud, bustling bar-street vibe, the exterior has the calm, tidy feel of a proper Korean pub. Soft, warm lighting fills the space, so even before stepping inside you get a sense of being welcomed.

Since we drove there ourselves that day, we skipped alcohol and just had water and soft drinks alongside the food. You'd think ordering only anju (drinking snacks) without alcohol at a pub would feel awkward, or that the food would be too salty and heavy — but the dishes here were so well balanced that it felt exactly like a satisfying, hearty meal at a genuinely great Korean restaurant, no alcohol needed.

Sugi dakdoritang, 25,000 won: chicken stew under fried glass noodles

For the sugi dakdoritang (25,000 won), we paid an extra 2,000 won to switch to boneless for easier eating. The moment it landed on the table, the subtle sweet-spicy aroma and generous portion really got our appetites going.

The chicken had no gamey smell at all, was well seasoned all the way through, and had an impressively moist, tender texture.

Dakjeon, 14,000 won: crisp outside, juicy inside

Ordered as a side to go with the main dish, the dakjeon (14,000 won) also exceeded expectations.

It looked the part right away, golden and crispy. A textbook example of crispy-outside, juicy-inside: the outside was crunchy while the chicken inside stayed light, savory, and moist.

Pan-fried dishes can turn greasy, but the special sauce and scallion salad served alongside cut right through any heaviness.

Dipping a piece of dakjeon into the spicy dakdoritang broth was an amazing combo — we ate so eagerly that I didn't even miss not having a drink after driving there.
