Mukho Sotbokkeumtang is a chicken restaurant opposite Kkamakbawi Rock at Mukho Port in Donghae, Gangwon. We ate mild sotttukkeong dakbokkeumtang and fried rice upstairs with a sea view; even the mild level had a gentle heat, while the not-too-sweet sauce and crisp rice at the bottom stood out.
Gangneung Sand Main Branch is a dessert café on Seonggogyang-gil 5beonan-gil in Gangneung. I took strawberry and corn sand cookies back to my accommodation; the strawberry was tangy and creamy, while the corn was savory, sweet, and salty. The neat box and individual wrapping made them convenient travel gifts.
Jin Seiromushi is a Korean seafood and cypress-steamed-food restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon. I had a soy-marinated red crab set meal and a soy-marinated shrimp set meal for breakfast, with stone-pot rice and many side dishes. The red crab was sweet and savory rather than overly salty, and the spacious seating made it feel suitable for a family meal.
This seafood takeout shop is inside Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. I took a red snow crab lunch box and crab-shell fried rice back to our accommodation; the crab was easy to eat and sweet, while the fried rice was the standout. The snow crab lunch box was sold out when I visited.
Cafe Dunchi is a café by Namdaecheon in Yangyang, Gangwon, with a water sports center on the first floor. After coffee with my family, we took a six-person electric boat for 30 minutes and watched the sunset; the quiet ride and river view stayed with me.
Cafe Giwa is a hanok café near Chodang Sundubu Village in Gangneung, Gangwon. I had homemade lemonade, an iced Americano, and a green tea triangle cake while looking around its old coffee tools and antique objects; the matcha-and-red-bean cake was good, but exploring the hanok stayed with me most.
Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café on Haean-ro in Gangneung, Gangwon. During my Gangneung trip, I had iced coffee and bread by the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea. The wide interior and parking were convenient, but being able to sit inside and take in the ocean was the highlight.
Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean restaurant in Sokcho Central Market, Gangwon, where my family ordered nurungji ojingeo sundae and fried squid to take away. The squid was plump and satisfying, while the sundae paired chewy squid with crispy scorched rice; although there was a line, it was ready sooner than expected.
Yeoyejeong is a meat restaurant in Seo-myeon, Yangyang, where I had a lunch set of meat sotbap, steamed eggs, and kimchi stew with my child. The hearty rice and shareable steamed eggs worked well, and the large free parking area, high chairs, and indoor restroom made the visit convenient.
Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout is a sashimi takeout shop in Sonyang-myeon, Yangyang, near Sol Beach. I took a two-person assorted sashimi set back to our accommodation and found its thick, chewy fish, seafood, vegetables, and sauces convenient for dinner. The tidy shop and neatly packed order left me satisfied.
Ichiba Ramen is a Japanese ramen restaurant on Jungang-ro in Sokcho, Gangwon. I tried spicy Karai Ramen and cold hiyashi chuka; the former had a rich tonkotsu broth with balanced heat, while the latter had chewy noodles and restrained acidity. The compact dining room has counter and table seating, with self-service ordering, pickup, and tray return.
Gangneung Sand Main Branch is a dessert café on Seonggogoyang-gil 5beonan-gil in Gangneung, with a café and Sandbox experience zone. I bought coffee and sweet corn flavors to eat at Sodol Beach and liked their buttery aroma and generous cream, though single pieces and mixed boxes were unavailable.
