Grilled pork bone couple set in Seosan: Bultan Wang Ppyeo Gui

Bultan Wang Ppyeo Gui Yecheon Junghung Branch is a Korean restaurant in Yecheon-dong, Seosan, Chungnam, specializing in ppyeo-gui (grilled pork bone) and gamjatang (pork bone stew). Two of us shared the ppyeo-gui couple set at 44,800 won, which came with flying fish roe rice balls and steamed egg, and the bones were huge with meat tender enough to slide off with chopsticks. Piling sauce and meat onto a rice ball was the best bite of the meal, making Bultan Wang Ppyeo Gui an easy recommendation for anyone who loves grilled pork bone.

Incheon Nonhyeon ramen shop with 9,900won lunch set: Hongdae Gureume

Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch is a Japanese ramen and sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor of the iFlex Building in Namdong, Incheon. A couple stopped by for weekday lunch and ordered the Alchan Lunch (ramen plus tuna onigiri, 9,900 won) and the Pork Belly Overload Chashu Ramen Set (20,500 won), both with Fukuoka-style tonkotsu broth. The broth is rich and the noodles chewy, so Hongdae Gureume is worth one visit if you like ramen.

Apgujeong Sinpocha is a neighborhood pocha (Korean pub) on the second floor near Gaebong Station in Guro, Seoul, where an owner with 13 years in the restaurant trade cooks every dish himself. Arriving at 9:30pm, the writer ordered grilled whole tofu with kimchi for ₩18,000 and the owner's pick assorted skewers, 7 pieces for ₩15,000, and with two or more dishes ordered soju drops to ₩3,000 and beer to ₩4,000. Under soft lighting, Apgujeong Sinpocha feels like a cozy hideout for a late drink rather than a loud bar.

Anseong Chinese restaurant weekday dinner set for 27,900 won: Chibao

Chibao is a Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of Starfield Anseong in Gyeonggi-do. On a weekday evening visit with a child, the three-dish set of jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), fried rice and tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) came to 27,900 won, and the smoky jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) broth and main-dish-sized portion of fried rice stood out most. For a filling meal with kids at Starfield Anseong, Chibao is the answer.

Jeonju skewer shop grilling to order near Gyeonggijeon: Munkkocchi

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is an octopus and chicken skewer shop a 3-minute walk from Gyeonggijeon Shrine in Jeonju. Munkkocchi's owner grilled the cheese chicken skewer and the katsuobushi octopus skewer one by one the moment they were ordered instead of reheating pre-grilled stock, and the octopus stayed tender down to the last piece. For freshly grilled skewers in Jeonju Hanok Village, Munkkocchi is a solid choice.

Jeju Sagye-ri Korean restaurant with matcha noodles: Sanbang Sochan

Sanbang Sochan in Jangsu Sanghoe Jeju Sagye-ri Branch is a Korean restaurant in Sagye-ri, Seogwipo, at the foot of Sanbang-san, cooking with Jeju ingredients such as tangerine, matcha, abalone and Daejeong garlic. With bar-table seats, Sanbang Sochan is an easy Sagye-ri restaurant for a bowl of noodles on your own.

Giheung butcher BBQ lunch special: yukhoe bibimbap ₩15,000, Dongbaek

Dongbaek Hanokjip Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant is a charcoal-grill butcher restaurant on Eondong-ro in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi, and it serves a lunch special on weekdays. Arriving at 11:20 after a morning workout, the writer ordered two yukhoe (raw beef) bibimbap with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) sets at ₩15,000 each on the table tablet, and the clean-tasting bibimbap, piled with vegetables and raw beef, went well with the stew. With a wide private parking lot and a self-serve bar, Dongbaek Hanokjip is worth recommending for a weekday lunch.

Haenggung-dong café in Suwon with a basement goods shop: Jeong

Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch is a large roastery café in the middle of the Haenggung-dong café street in Suwon, Gyeonggi. After regular visits to the Jangan-mun branch, the writer came to the main branch for the first time, looked around the basement ordering floor and MD goods shop, and shared a coconut coffee for 7,000 won and an Americano for 5,500 won with family. If you like nutty beans, the coconut coffee and Americano combo at Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch is the right call.

Kid-friendly dakgalbi restaurant near Seosan Lake Park: Neuru Jip

Neuru Jip Seosan Lake Park Branch is a pre-grilled dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) restaurant on Hosugongwon 3-ro in Seosan, Chungnam. Dojima roll and pain au chocolat at Eojil In, a Wangsimni bakery café

Eojil In Wangsimni Station Branch is a two-floor bakery café right outside Exit 6 of Wangsimni Station in Seongdong, Seoul, a short walk from the back gate of Hanyang University. On a visit with her husband, the writer ordered the Dojima roll at 5,800 won, a pain au chocolat, and two decaf lattes, one iced and one hot — the decaf brewed up nutty and full, and the Dojima roll made with 100% dairy cream vanished in a minute. After being turned away several times for lack of seats, she found both the coffee and the bread at Eojil In worth coming back for.

Munnae Station Korean restaurant for weekday lunch clam shabu: Palmi

Palmi Jogae Kalguksu is a clam shabu and kalguksu (hand-cut noodle) restaurant near Munnae Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. An octagonal pot of Palmi Clam Shabu Kalguksu costs 18,900 won, or 15,900 won with the weekday lunch discount, and two servings came loaded with abalone, scallops, mussels and shabu beef before the course moved on to noodles and abalone innard porridge, with free refills of geotjeori (fresh kimchi). With roomy tables throughout, Palmi Jogae Kalguksu works just as well for friends, family meals and work dinners.
