Haenggung-dong café in Suwon with a basement goods shop: Jeong

In short

Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch is a large roastery café in the middle of the Haenggung-dong café street in Suwon, Gyeonggi. After regular visits to the Jangan-mun branch, the writer came to the main branch for the first time, looked around the basement ordering floor and MD goods shop, and shared a coconut coffee for 7,000 won and an Americano for 5,500 won with family. If you like nutty beans, the coconut coffee and Americano combo at Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch is the right call.

Suwon's large Haenggung-dong café, Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch — this makes my ninth revisit to a Haenggung-dong café.

Ever since my first trip to Haenggung-dong cafés two years ago, there's been one place I keep coming back to like it's my neighborhood mill — Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters. It's famous as one of the coffee spots in Haenggung-dong, and I've mostly frequented the Jangan-mun branch. Then it hit me... wouldn't the coffee taste even better at the main branch? So this time I finally went to the Haenggung Main Branch for the first time.

Where is Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch?

The Haenggung Main Branch sits right near Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, inside the Haenggung-dong café street. Perfect location if you're looking for a large café in Haenggung-dong.

Jeong Ji-young Coffee has a few branches around Haenggung-dong, but the main branch sits right in the center of the café street, so it naturally fits into any Haenggung-dong café tour route.

This is also famous for its sando (fruit sandwich), so it's great for a sugar refill too. It's also close to the Haenggung-dong public parking lot, making it way more convenient to visit.

What makes the mood at the Haenggung Main Branch different

Interior of Jeong Ji-young Coffee Haenggung Main Branch with retro props

Most Jeong Ji-young Coffee branches lean toward a nature-heavy vibe, but the Haenggung Main Branch feels a bit more stylish. You order in the basement, pick up your food, and head upstairs to the seating area. Even on the way up the stairs, you'll spot little props scattered around that give off a retro feel.

The 3rd floor is where coffee classes happen, and the 2nd floor is the seating area with group tables.

Even among Haenggung-dong cafés, the interior here stands out — retro mixed with industrial touches, so just sitting here fills you with mood. Traces of customers writing on the tables with tissues are still there too, and honestly that becomes another charming detail.

The main branch's basement combines the ordering space, desserts, and an MD goods shop all in one. If you're a sucker for little props, this place is genuinely dangerous haha. Hats, pencils, clips — all kinds of goods full of Jeong Ji-young café charm are displayed, so you end up browsing without noticing time pass while waiting for your order.

Hat goods printed with the phrase 'no coffee no work'

The one that caught my eye the most was a hat with the phrase 'no coffee no work' printed on it — honestly, shouldn't I just buy this haha. Not many large Haenggung-dong cafés sell goods like this, so this space becomes a browsing point all on its own.

There's a variety of goods that carry the brand's mood while also promoting Suwon, so take a look and snap some photos. Wherever you point your camera, it's a photo spot.

What a regular orders: coconut coffee and Americano

Ordered coconut coffee and Americano

This is the reason I visit every time I go to Haenggung-dong! No matter how pretty a café is, if the coffee falls short, I never come back — but this is my ninth revisit to Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters! The coconut coffee, in particular, is the drink I keep reaching for even though I'm not usually into sweet drinks.

  • Coconut coffee ₩7,000
  • Americano ₩5,500

I never really liked coconut, but this coconut coffee completely changed my mind. The cream they use has almost none of that cloying coconut heaviness and isn't too sweet, giving off a light sweetness and a subtle coconut aroma. That balance somehow doubles the flavor, so now the coconut coffee is a fixed order whenever I come here.

This was the first time I've had coconut coffee done this well among large Haenggung-dong cafés. I'd strongly recommend Jeong Ji-young's beans to anyone who prefers a nutty roast over acidity — as a proper roastery café, the bean quality is clearly a cut above. I genuinely recommend ordering the coconut coffee and Americano together and drinking them alternately. This time, going with family, we ordered exactly that combo and had zero regrets.

Unfortunately, on the day I visited, they weren't selling the Haenggung-dong mango sando, so I only had drinks 😭 This place is a hidden sando spot too... Resting your tired feet here with a cup of coffee after exploring Haenggung-dong is exactly the right route for a Suwon Haenggung-dong café day. Even though it's a large Haenggung-dong café, it's so full of character that even people who usually avoid big cafés will end up liking it. Make sure to have the coffee at Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters 👍
