Charcoal pork galbi with free naengmyeon, Yangju: Manpo Garden
In short
Manpo Garden is a charcoal pork galbi restaurant in Yangju's Okjeong-dong. Three servings of scored, seasoned pork galbi were grilled over charcoal, paired with the free naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) that comes with any meat order — one bowl of mul naengmyeon and one bibim naengmyeon, eaten yuksam-naengmyeon style. Mild seasoning, tender scored meat, and a generous serving-size free noodle dish made for a can't-go-wrong meal.

When picking a dinner spot that everyone — young or old — can agree on, sweet-seasoned pork galbi (marinated pork ribs) has to be near the top of the list. The sizzle of meat on the grill and that sweet, smoky charcoal smell floating up have a kind of magic that disarms any appetite, every single time.
Today I'm sharing a vivid account of my visit to Manpo Garden, a galbi restaurant in Yangju's Okjeong new town that's earned serious love from locals for its top-tier meat and incredibly generous extras.

Manpo Garden in Okjeong-dong, Yangju: the vibe and the table setup
Manpo Garden sits right in Okjeong-dong, so it's very easy to get to, and stepping inside you're greeted by a spotlessly maintained interior — none of that greasy stickiness or hazy smoke you sometimes get at BBQ places.
As soon as we sat down, we didn't hesitate and ordered a generous three servings of the house specialty, pork galbi. The moment the order went in, a well-lit charcoal fire got set up, and a neat lineup of side dishes designed to boost the meat's flavor started arriving on the table one after another. Rather than just piling on random banchan (side dishes) for show, they'd clearly picked ones that pair perfectly with galbi, which only raised my expectations for the main event.

Sweet-and-salty perfection over charcoal: pork galbi, 3 servings
Soon, three thick, glistening servings of pork galbi arrived. The moment the meat hit the grill, it let out a lively sizzle as the charcoal aroma started soaking into the sauce — waiting for it to finish cooking felt like a test of patience.

A mild seasoning that never gets old, and tender meat
I tried a nicely browned piece of galbi on its own first. Some seasoned galbi hits you with an overwhelming sweet-salty punch on the first bite and gets tiresome fast — but Manpo Garden's galbi walks that line brilliantly.

The balance of mild sweetness and saltiness is excellent, and delicate score marks cut into the thick meat mean it goes down tender with barely any chewing. Wrapping a piece of thick galbi with crunchy pickled onion and garlic in a fresh lettuce leaf brought on a satisfaction that washed away the whole day's fatigue. And with three generous servings, we could enjoy our meat feast at a relaxed pace without any second thoughts.

The real highlight: generous free naengmyeon
There's one more decisive reason I'd call this place the top galbi restaurant spot in Okjeong-dong, Yangju — the free naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) that comes with any meat order.
Usually when a BBQ place gives you naengmyeon as a 'service' extra, it comes in a tiny dessert-sized bowl just for show. But Manpo Garden's free naengmyeon is generous and high-quality enough to pass as something you'd order and pay for separately. You can choose between icy mul naengmyeon (cold broth noodles) and spicy-sweet bibim naengmyeon (mixed noodles), so my companion and I each picked one.

Galbi and naengmyeon: an unbeatable combo
You probably know the yuksam-naengmyeon style — picking up a warm, well-grilled piece of galbi with your chopsticks, rolling it up in cold, chewy naengmyeon noodles, and eating it all in one bite. The heavy sweet-salty punch of the galbi colliding with the refreshing savoriness of the noodle broth made for a truly perfect finale. Even after filling up on three servings of meat, the pull of this free naengmyeon had us scraping the bowl clean.

Final verdict
Manpo Garden in Okjeong, Yangju turned out to be a great spot for enjoying high-quality charcoal-grilled pork galbi in a comfortable setting, with nothing left to want. Between the mild, tender flavor of the pork galbi itself and the sheer generosity of the free naengmyeon that pushed the meal's satisfaction to 200%, it added up to a flawlessly enjoyable meal.
If you're looking for a spot for a family dinner or a hearty evening meal, I'd strongly recommend this place — it nails both taste and value. After the sweet galbi, which do you prefer to finish with: the cool mul naengmyeon or the spicy bibim naengmyeon?
