Looking for a good eel restaurant in Bucheon, I went with a friend to Gochang Pungcheon Eel in Sangdong.

It had been a while since I'd properly enjoyed grilled eel, so we went all out and ordered grilled eel, eel soup, and bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) for a hearty meal.

Walking in, the place was clean and well organized overall, making it comfortable for a relaxed meal with a friend.
Eel felt like a full, proper meal rather than just a dish, so it seemed like a good fit for gatherings or family dinners too.
How was the price and texture of the grilled eel?
The dish I was most looking forward to that day was, of course, the grilled eel.

The menu offered salt-grilled, soy sauce-grilled, and gochujang-grilled styles, priced at ₩35,000 for a net weight of 300–310g.

When the eel arrived, the flesh looked thick and appetizing right away, and eating it hot straight off the grill, the outside was nicely cooked while the inside stayed moist and tender.

The eel had a great savory flavor on its own, and adding ginger or other sides cleansed the palate for a different way to enjoy it. Piece by piece, my chopsticks kept drifting back to the eel while we chatted.
Ginger and side dish pairings
Part of the fun with grilled eel is how the flavor changes depending on what you pair it with.

First I tasted the rich eel flavor on its own, then added ginger, and then tried another piece with the side dishes — the same eel felt a little different each time.

The savory, rich eel paired especially well with the fresh sides, so it was easy to keep eating without feeling heavy. It was a great meal for slowly grilling and talking with a friend, and it really did feel filling and satisfying.
Jangsu eel soup for ₩10,000, paired with the grilled eel
After working through most of the grilled eel, we also tried the eel soup.

The Jangsu eel soup was priced at ₩10,000 and had its own appeal, different from the grilled eel. A spoonful of the warm broth flowed naturally after the grilled dish, and the rich soup made the meal feel even more filling.
Ending with just the grilled eel would have felt a bit lacking, but adding the hot soup made the whole meal feel much more complete.
Sharing it with my friend, alternating between the grilled eel and the soup, the combination worked really well.
Finishing with bibim guksu for ₩5,000
The last thing we ordered was bibim guksu, priced at ₩5,000.
After eating so much eel, I wondered if there'd be room for a noodle dish, but seeing the tangy-sweet bibim guksu, my chopsticks reached for it anyway.

The sauce coated the noodles nicely and refreshed the palate, and saving one piece of eel to eat together with the noodles turned out to be a great match of savory eel and tangy sauce.

After fully enjoying the rich flavor of the grilled eel, finishing with the bibim guksu made the whole meal flow really well.
Why it worked well for two
Visiting Gochang Pungcheon Eel with my friend this time, we got to try grilled eel, eel soup, and bibim guksu all in one meal, which made for a satisfying visit.

Centered on the thick, savory texture of the eel, moving on to the warm soup and finishing with the refreshing noodles, the combination of dishes worked really well together.
It's the kind of place that comes to mind when you want a hearty eel meal in Bucheon, and it was a good day catching up with a friend over a satisfying meal.
