My mom’s hair is usually very frizzy, and even when she gets a perm, the curls tend not to come out well. So this time, we thought, let’s get a proper consultation and do it right! We visited Beorn Hair Cheongdam 💇🏻‍♀️

Beorn Hair Cheongdam is a hair salon in Cheongdam-dong, close to Gangnam-gu Office Station! It is within walking distance from Exit 3-1 of the station, so it is easy to visit by public transit too! 🚶🏻‍♀️

Valet parking is available if you are driving! Leave your car at the valet booth across from 40-10 Cheongdam-dong, and the valet fee is ₩4,000. After parking, enter through the rear entrance of Cheongyul Building at 40-29 Cheongdam-dong and head up to the second floor for Beorn Hair Cheongdam.

We booked in advance, and this time it was my mom—not me—who received a hair consultation and magic setting perm 💇🏻‍♀️

What was the hair consultation like?

She received a hair consultation and magic setting perm from Deputy Manager Hyeonseong! My favorite part this time was definitely the hair consultation!!

At many salons, you show them a photo you want or say, “Please make it feel like this!” and go straight into the treatment. But at Beorn Hair Cheongdam, they consulted with us so carefully before starting 👍 They did not just ask what style she wanted—they checked her current hair condition, what concerns she has about her hair day to day, the style she wants, and even how she normally styles it, one by one!

They even recommended styles that would suit my mom’s face shape, hair condition, and current hairstyle! Her hair is normally extremely frizzy, and above all, it is the kind of hair that does not hold a perm well. So even after getting a perm, it often loosened faster than expected or did not quite turn out as she had hoped 🥲

We mentioned all of this from the start, and they carefully checked her hair in person while explaining how it would be best to proceed!! They spent quite a long time on the consultation and looked at everything in such detail that I personally thought it would be good not only for people looking for a salon that does perms well, but also for anyone who wants a proper hair consultation!

Choosing a magic setting perm for frizzy hair that will not hold a perm

After the consultation, we decided on a magic setting perm!!

Let me show you my mom’s BEFORE hair first. You can see how frizzy it looks overall even in the photos, right?! 🥲 More than simply adding curls, it was important to tame the overall frizz while bringing out natural-looking curls. So, considering her current hair condition and the style she wanted, we decided on the magic setting perm!!

Since my mom’s hair has always struggled to take a perm, my biggest worries were whether a magic setting perm could work on hair like hers and whether the curls would come out properly this time. But it turned out so, so well! The frizzy areas were neatly smoothed down, and the curls at the bottom came alive much better than I expected.

They performed the treatment to smooth the overall frizz while creating natural curls at the ends. They continued checking her hair condition along the way and shaped the overall style based on what we had discussed during the initial consultation.

Magic setting perm treatment time

I think people looking into a magic setting perm are often curious about how long it takes! For my mom, it took about 2 hours 30 minutes in total, from the first hair consultation through the final styling! Considering how long and carefully they did the initial consultation, it did not feel like it took longer than expected.

Still, the time can vary depending on hair length, degree of damage, and the style you want, so I think it is best to allow around 2.5 to 3 hours when booking a magic setting perm :)

Isn’t the before-and-after difference incredible...?! Before the treatment, her hair looked frizzy and puffed up overall, without a tidy shape. After the magic setting perm, it looked much calmer all over!

It did not look flat and stuck to her head as if she had simply straightened it, either. The frizz on top was smoothed out while natural curls were added underneath, for a much more polished look 💗

I was worried because the curls at the bottom were originally very tight, but I was surprised at how much more bouncy and beautiful the curls came out!! It felt exactly like what we said in the first consultation: tame the frizz, but keep the curls natural rather than overdone! My mom was very satisfied too :)

Why the thorough consultation was so good

What I liked about Beorn Hair was not simply that the perm result was pretty. Before the treatment, they gave a full hair consultation covering hair condition → everyday concerns → desired style → recommendations for styles that would actually suit her.

If your hair is usually very frizzy, your curls do not come out well even after a perm, or you have a hairstyle in mind but do not know what would suit you, I think it would be nice to get a proper consultation here :) And parking is so convenient because you can simply use the valet service, and I think it is great that even in Cheongdam, you can park for 3 hours for ₩4,000!!
