Seoul Mexican restaurant scallop tacos: Eaters Mexican HUFS Branch

A spacious, warm Mexican restaurant near HUFS

Eaters Mexican HUFS Branch is on the third floor of 13 Hwigyeong-ro in Dongdaemun-gu.

The first thing I noticed as soon as I walked in was that the restaurant was more spacious and pleasant than I expected. The wooden tables and chairs were all in warm brown tones, and the lighting had a cozy feel, so it was really comfortable. There were plants placed here and there, plus Mexican-style tile decorations and little props, so it definitely felt like a Mexican restaurant rather than just an ordinary place to eat. Several round black pendant lights hung from the ceiling, and they made the atmosphere feel even cozier. The window side has full-height windows too, so plenty of sunlight comes in! I visited during the day, and the whole place felt bright and warm, which made it nice for taking photos too.

The tables were spaced out without feeling cramped, so it looked like a good place to visit with several people. There was a nice variety of tables seating two to four people.

They bring you an iPad to order from like this. There were lots of set options, including couple and family sets, as well as plenty of individual dishes. I ordered the scallop tacos, shrimp rosé fried rice, and a nacho set.

This dish came with shrimp-topped fried rice and a creamy sauce! It looked delicious from the photos, but when it arrived, the portion was quite generous too. One side held well-seasoned rice topped with ingredients like chopped tomatoes and onions. Several shrimp were piled on the other side, and I loved that they were bigger than I expected.

The nachos came with four different sauces like this. Personally, I thought they tasted great when I mixed several together. The nachos were crisp and lightly seasoned, so they were nice to have alongside the tacos.

Finally, the scallop tacos were such an interesting, fresh combination because I had never tried anything like them before!! The scallops were larger than expected, which was great, and their surfaces were nicely seared. They had a nutty flavor while still keeping that distinct scallop texture—springy and tender at the same time. The sweetness of the corn and the crisp, clean taste of the onions worked surprisingly well with everything, so I really enjoyed them!!

One small downside, though, was that there was honestly a lot more cilantro than I expected. I can eat cilantro to some extent, but even I found its aroma pretty strong in each bite! So if cilantro is not your thing, I really recommend asking them to leave it out when you order. For cilantro lovers, though, it would probably be even tastier because you can really taste that aroma.

A nice place for a relaxed meal with something different

Overall, Eaters Mexican felt like a place where you can enjoy both the food and the atmosphere! It is especially a nice option when you want something a little different from the usual choices near HUFS. The restaurant is quite spacious and does not feel hectic, so it is good for a leisurely meal with friends, and the subtly pretty atmosphere also makes it seem like a nice date spot. When I think of Mexican food, I usually think only of tacos or spicy dishes, but there are also dishes using rice and cream sauce like the ones I had, so I think even first-timers can enjoy it without feeling intimidated. If you are looking for a place to eat near HUFS or already love Mexican food, it could be worth a visit!
