Today I'm posting about Sugyeokok, a great restaurant in Bundang Migeum! I really love dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot) 🐓 and this time at Sugyeokok I had it with rice porridge and kalguksu (noodles) too — super filling haha

You can park right in front of the restaurant.

There's also a separate waiting area if there's a line, so you can wait comfortably haha

Inside the restaurant — even hair ties on the tables

Interior with spacious tables

The inside had plenty of seating! The tables had a good amount of space too, so it seemed like a great spot for a family meal or a group gathering with friends.

Each table had basic sauces ready — soy sauce, pepper, mustard. But what really surprised me was the hair tie haha While eating dak hanmari, your hair can get in the way sometimes, and they even had hair ties prepared… the owner's attention to detail is amazing 〰️👏🏻

The menu and the 7-second timer event

While looking at the menu, I found a fun event using a timer! If you hit exactly 7 seconds, you get a free cheese-stuffed hash brown. Even if you fail, you get a free drink haha We were a bit too shy to try it 😂 but if you're brave, definitely give it a shot!

Sugyeokok had various set menus built around dak hanmari as the base.

  • Dak hanmari + choice of side + noodle-topping set
  • Dak hanmari + chicken neck-meat rice porridge + noodle-topping set
  • Dak hanmari + noodle-topping set

With several sets available, it was nice being able to pick based on preference! You can also add extra noodle toppings, and side menu options include rice porridge, cheese-stuffed hash brown, and seasoned chicken salad, so there's a lot to enjoy alongside the dak hanmari haha

What we ordered: chicken neck-meat rice porridge + dak hanmari + kalguksu (2-person set), ₩38,000

Chicken neck-meat scorched rice porridge

Chicken neck-meat scorched rice porridge served as a pre-meal dish

The chicken neck-meat scorched rice porridge came out as a pre-meal dish! Can you see how it looks haha The nutty sesame oil smell was wafting out already, and it made me hungry the moment it arrived 🤤

The chicken neck meat was finely chopped so it wasn't chewy, and it was seasoned just salty enough to be delicious! The portion was bigger than expected too, so we couldn't finish it before the main dish and ended up eating it little by little alongside the main course haha

A spoonful of the chicken neck-meat rice porridge

The seasoning was spot on and it was nutty, so we enjoyed the pre-meal porridge a lot!

The order for eating dak hanmari

Finally, the main dish, dak hanmari, arrived 〰️! There was an induction stove built into the table, so we could keep it simmering and eat it warm the whole time — great touch!

Can you see this clear, milky-white broth〰️ I wanted to dig in right away, but we waited a bit longer to eat it at its best haha

Table instructions on how to enjoy dak hanmari

I loved that the table had detailed instructions for 'enjoying it deliciously'! Once the timer goes off, you turn the induction up to 6, then eat in the order: rice cake first → breast meat → legs and wings. On a first visit, it can be hard to know how to eat it, so having the order and method spelled out so clearly meant we could follow along and enjoy it properly haha

Basic side dishes including shredded cabbage and mul-kimchi

The basic side dishes were shredded cabbage, mul-kimchi, pickled chili, and flying fish roe, and

Plate of dadegi chili paste and garlic

chili paste (dadegi) and garlic were also set out. While the dak hanmari was simmering, we followed the table's instructions on how to make the dipping sauce and made our own haha

Ta-da〰️✨ Our tangy, salty dak hanmari dipping sauce, complete!

Chicken dipped in the sauce
Rice cake dipped in the sauce

Dipping the chicken and rice cakes into the sauce made a really great combo! And the broth was clear yet deep and rich in flavor! Not too strong, but the kind of taste that keeps you coming back for more haha

Finishing off with kalguksu

As we worked through the chicken, I remembered the note on the table that said 'call a staff member when there are one or two pieces of meat left.' So we called a staff member right away and asked for the kalguksu haha

Adding kalguksu noodles to that clear, deep broth — of course that's how you finish it 〰️🍜 The broth soaked perfectly into the noodles and it was really delicious, and after eating so much beforehand, we were extremely, extremely full 👍

When to visit Sugyeokok

I'm officially calling this a great restaurant in Bundang Migeum! 👏🏻 With dak hanmari in a clear yet deep, rich broth, plus rice porridge and kalguksu, it was a truly satisfying meal haha The space is spacious and parking is available, so it seems great for family meals or group gatherings too! When you're craving clear dak hanmari and kalguksu, come to Sugyeokok〜🐓🍜
