I've already had my hair dyed twice and permed once this year. Back when I was working at the office, I was too lazy to put on makeup and always went bare-faced. Even if I couldn't be bothered with makeup, I felt like I had to at least do something with my hair.

But here's the thing — once you dye your hair, you have to keep going back to the salon to cover the roots, and with the perm on top of that, the damage became really obvious. So I figured black hair would probably be the best option.

I went to see designer Daewoong at ONLY FOR YOU Hannam Main Branch, known as a go-to spot for black hair dye. Here's my honest review of a hair service that changed my whole impression just by changing my hair color.

ONLY FOR YOU Hannam Main Branch is located at Hannam-oGeori, so it's easy to get to no matter where you're coming from.

I took public transit, getting off at Hannam Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line and walking about 10 minutes from Exit 1. You can also transfer to a bus right in front of the exit.

Access by public transit without a car was better than I expected. For reference, the salon itself has free parking for 250 cars, so anyone driving in can visit without any hassle.

The salon is around 60 pyeong (about 198㎡), with the hair zone and design zone laid out with different concepts.

Open until 10pm

Business hours run until 8pm only on Sundays, while Monday through Saturday it's open from 11am to 10pm.

The only closed day is the day of major Korean holidays, so compared to most salons that close around 8 or 9pm,

I thought you could comfortably visit after work without feeling rushed.

Black dye on damaged hair: the actual process

I'd already dyed my hair twice and permed it once this year, so my hair was fairly damaged.

Designer Daewoong at ONLY FOR YOU Hannam specializes in black dye, so from the consultation stage he carefully checked my hair's history.

To prevent scalp damage,

he carefully applied a scalp protectant before dyeing, which put my mind at ease.

Dyeing usually makes your scalp sting, right? But there was no stinging at all — I think even people with sensitive scalps could get this done with peace of mind.

The total service time, from consultation to finish, took about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours,

but he paid such careful attention

that the waiting time didn't feel wasted at all.

Advice before going black

I'm actually a strong cool tone, so black dye doesn't really matter for me personally, but

designer Daewoong was more concerned than I was, warning me that going black would limit my options if I wanted to dye a different color later. I was impressed that he cared more about it than I did.

The color turned out even and deep black,

and I was really satisfied that the frizziness typical of damaged hair was completely covered, finishing with shine.
