Shumai and cream shrimp at Gangnam Chinese spot Sinbok Myeongwan
In short
Sinbok Myeongwan is a Hong Kong-style Chinese restaurant in the basement right by Exit 1 of Gangnam Station in Seoul. Two adults ordered beef knife-cut noodles for 11,000 won, shumai for 9,800 won and cream shrimp for 19,900 won and left completely full, with the firm, meaty shumai and the crepe-thin layered batter on the cream shrimp standing out most. For dim sum and knife-cut noodles in one meal near Gangnam Station, Sinbok Myeongwan is an easy recommendation.

I went to Sinbok Myeongwan, a Hong Kong-style Chinese restaurant near Gangnam Station. From the daily hand-kneaded and aged dim sum to the house-made beef knife-cut noodles and the cream shrimp with a batter so thin and soft it looked like layered crepes, I could really feel the care put into every dish.
The taste is great, but most of the fried rice and noodle dishes are ₩11,000 or under, so I'd also recommend it as a good-value lunch spot for office workers around Gangnam Station.

What the dining room at Sinbok Myeongwan is like

This Chinese restaurant near Gangnam Station has an exotic feel overall, with warm wood tones mixed with brown tiles, green lattice, and soft lighting. While waiting for the menu, the faint scent of spices and broth in the air reminded me of the familiar smell from my trip to Hong Kong. It felt like a brief getaway, haha.

There are also solo seats for Gangnam Station office workers who want a no-pressure solo lunch. I went around 11:40am, and the solo seats were already full.
Sinbok Myeongwan menu and prices

Sinbok Myeongwan bills itself as a little slice of Hong Kong near Gangnam Station, with dim sum and beef knife-cut noodles as the mains. There are also fried dishes like guobaorou (sweet and sour pork), yuxiang liver, and chili shrimp, plus stir-fried dishes like fried rice and mapo tofu.
I usually prefer rice over noodles on workdays, and there's a huge variety of fried rice, all under ₩11,000, so it's a great-value lunch for office workers near Gangnam Station.
- Beef knife-cut noodles ₩11,000
- Shumai ₩9,800
- Cream shrimp ₩19,900
The two of us ordered all this, and we were absolutely stuffed by the end.

Shumai (steamed pork and shrimp dumplings), 9,800 won
🥟 Shumai dim sum. Shumai is apparently dim sum made by combining pork and shrimp. The moment I bit into one, I understood why this place is known as a repeat-visit dim sum spot. It had the densest, most satisfying texture of any dim sum I've had. Truly hearty!🤩
Even though the outer wrapper of Sinbok Myeongwan's dim sum isn't thin, the shrimp's texture and flavor came through as clearly as if it were a thin-skinned dumpling. Dim sum really is a must-order here.

Beef knife-cut noodles, 11,000 won
🍜 Beef knife-cut noodles. I've had beef noodle soup before, but this was my first time with beef knife-cut noodles. Knife-cut noodles, apparently, are made by shaving dough with a knife, like a plane, so they look rougher and more rustic than machine-cut noodles.
Honestly, the look of it worried me a little at first — I'm sensitive to the smell of flour and can't eat thick kalguksu noodles. But even with the thickness, these went down smoothly without any off-putting flavor. This Chinese restaurant near Gangnam Station apparently hand-kneads and ages its noodles instead of using frozen ones, which might explain why.👍
Wow... the sharp yet clean broth, the tender meat, and the rustic, chewy knife-cut noodles together are just... they wrap around your mouth so intensely... now that the wind's starting to pick up, this is the taste I'll keep thinking about...❣️

Cream shrimp with crepe-thin batter, 19,900 won
🦐 Cream shrimp. Since the beef knife-cut noodles were spicy, I ordered cream shrimp to balance it out. Honestly, it took quite a while to come out. But one bite in, I understood why — this is worth the wait.

Seriously, this place puts so much care into the frying — why aren't they advertising it more? The batter is stacked up in thin, delicate layers. The cream flavor itself isn't anything special, but the shrimp is plump all the way to the tail, and the frying feels premium. The batter feels like two or three thin crepe layers stacked and fried together — do you know those rolled wafer cookies? It has that kind of feel. (I really wanted to get this description right, lol.) There's zero grittiness when you bite in, just a soft chew. Makes me wonder how good their other fried dishes must be~😋
