Choco cream salt bread with sweet-salty bite at Goyang bakery
In short
Boulangerie Tan, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX is a bakery on the basement 1st floor food hall of the Hyundai Department Store KINTEX branch in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang. Visiting as part of a sponsored campaign, the writer packed home a carrot râpée chicken sandwich, an olive cheese ciabatta, and several kinds of salt bread — the choco cream salt bread stood out for its sweet-salty rhythm, alternating chocolate coating and choco cream with bursts of salt crystal saltiness. If you're deciding what to pick at Boulangerie Tan, the carrot râpée chicken sandwich for a meal and the choco cream salt bread for something sweet come recommended.

I stopped by Boulangerie Tan on the basement 1st floor of Hyundai Department Store KINTEX. This time I visited as part of a sponsored campaign, so I picked out the breads and sandwiches I'd been wanting to try and packed them to go. When I got to the store, there were more kinds than I expected, so it was honestly hard to decide what to choose.

Location and atmosphere of Boulangerie Tan at Hyundai KINTEX
Boulangerie Tan at Hyundai Department Store KINTEX is located in the basement 1st floor food hall. The store isn't huge, but the display case was packed with salt bread, ciabatta, baguette, sandwiches, and desserts. The salt bread lineup in particular was really varied.

Salt bread types and prices
At the time of my visit, they had rice cake salt bread for ₩3,600, gourmet butter salt bread for ₩3,200, garlic butter salt bread for ₩3,800, and mentaiko potato salt bread for ₩4,000.
It wasn't just plain salt bread — there were versions with rice cake, garlic butter, mentaiko potato, and other add-ins, so it was fun trying to pick.

When I visited, there was also a 3+1 promotion running — buy 3 salt breads and get 1 gourmet butter salt bread free. Promotions and prices can change depending on when you visit, so check when you go.

Ciabatta, baguette, and sandwich options
The ciabatta lineup was pretty varied too. There was onion basil chicken ciabatta, sweet pumpkin cream cheese ciabatta, olive cheese ciabatta, and more. From ones with cheese baked to a golden brown to ones packed with filling, they looked good not just as a snack but as a proper meal.

The baguettes and sandwiches also caught my eye — fig cream cheese baguette, jambon fromage sandwich, carrot râpée chicken sandwich, sun-dried tomato sandwich, and more. In the end I went with the carrot râpée sandwich, olive cheese ciabatta, and a bunch of different salt breads to pack home!!

My top 2 after trying several
I packed home a lot, but there were exactly two that I really, truly enjoyed.
First, the carrot râpée chicken sandwich

This is a menu item marked "Signature" in the store, so it caught my eye. It wasn't just a little carrot râpée (carrot salad) on top — even in the photos you can tell how much was piled on. I brought it home and took a bite, and my first thought was, "Why is this carrot so delicious?" The bright, fresh flavor of the carrot râpée mixes with the chicken, cheese, and vegetables, but honestly the carrot itself was the real star. Even with that much carrot, it wasn't overwhelming at all — I just kept reaching for more. (Turns out I like carrots haha.) I meant to just snap a few photos and take a small bite, but I ended up finishing the whole thing right there. Of everything I packed home, this is the one I'd personally recommend first.
Second, the choco cream salt bread

At first, seeing the chocolate coating on the outside, I figured it'd be a pretty basic sweet choco bread — but one bite completely changed my mind.

The chocolate coating was tasty, but the real highlight was the choco cream inside. The cream was packed in all the way through, so every bite delivered a rich, intense chocolate flavor. But it wasn't just endlessly sweet — every so often you'd get a hit of saltiness from salt crystals. The sweetness of the chocolate, the richness of the choco cream, and the saltiness of the salt kept alternating, and it was truly the essence of sweet-and-salty. I meant to eat this slowly too, but it disappeared in two minutes flat. If you love chocolate and sweet-salty combos, I highly recommend trying this one.

Packaging and coffee prices
The packaging was neat, and the retro-style paper bag that's characteristic of Boulangerie Tan stood out too. It was easy to carry several items home after shopping at the department store.

You can also order coffee alongside the bread. When I visited, an americano was ₩4,500, decaf americano ₩5,000, café latte ₩5,000, and vanilla latte ₩5,500. (Pretty cheap for a department store haha.)
What to pick at Boulangerie Tan
Overall, Boulangerie Tan isn't a bakery with just one or two kinds of salt bread — there's ciabatta, baguette, sandwiches, and cream salt bread too, so it was fun just browsing. (Next time I should try the baguette!) I packed home a bunch this time, but the two that matched my taste best were the carrot râpée chicken sandwich and the choco cream salt bread.
- If you want a hearty meal — the carrot râpée chicken sandwich
- If you're after a sweet-yet-salty dessert bread — the choco cream salt bread
If you're looking for bread or a quick meal at Hyundai Department Store KINTEX, give Boulangerie Tan a look. Based on everything I tried, the carrot râpée chicken sandwich for a meal and the choco cream salt bread for something sweet were the two that stuck with me most. If you're torn on what to get at Boulangerie Tan, these are the two I'd recommend starting with :)
