Gangnam chicken galbi rice bowl lunch: 1992 Deopbap Korean restaurant

In short

1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch is a Korean rice bowl and jjageuli (thick stew) restaurant right beside Exit 3 of Gangnam Station in Seoul. Two friends ordered the chicken galbi (grilled chicken) rice bowl with added yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) plus the solo meat set with pork belly, picking steamed egg and two fried eggs as their sides. At 1992 Deopbap you choose the meat cut and side yourself at the kiosk and leave full for under 15,000 won a person, which makes it an easy weekday lunch for office workers in Gangnam.

I went to Gangnam Station with a friend not long ago. She said she was craving Korean food, so after a bit of searching we ended up at 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli, famous as a lunch spot for Gangnam office workers.

Every menu item is priced in the low-to-mid ₩10,000s, and honestly, for Korean food that good, the value was insane bb Let me get right into the review!!❤️

What is 1992 Deopbap like inside?

1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli sits right next to Gangnam Station Exit 3! The interior feels like a mix of Korean and Japanese dining, but with a lot of Korean touches worked in — it was fun and I liked it haha

From the exterior to the interior, the place is full-on Korean vibes 🇰🇷 — I think a foreign friend would have loved it too if I'd brought them along! There are also outdoor tables out front >.<

Kiosk ordering: choosing your meat cut and side

Ordering at 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli is easy — just use the kiosk. What surprised me was that even for the plain meat set, you get to pick the exact cut of meat and the type of side yourself!!!! So reasonable... and I also liked that if you don't want a side, you can swap it for a drink instead.

🍴Today's lunch🍴

Self-serve pickup area for food

For reference, picking up drinks and food, and returning trays, is all self-serve. A big number pops up like at a burger joint, which made it easy and convenient haha Great atmosphere for eating solo too!

Our lunch came out fast!

It came out way faster than expected and the portions were generous, so I was already happy lolol No wonder Gangnam office workers keep coming back for lunch.

Chicken galbi rice bowl set with added yukhoe

How does the chicken galbi rice bowl with added yukhoe taste?

My friend ordered the chicken galbi (grilled chicken) rice bowl from 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli, with an extra order of yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) added on ᴖ ᴈ ᴖ

Chicken galbi rice bowl served in a large bowl

It came in a big bowl, beautifully plated, and it already looked delicious ㅠㅠ The sauce was sweet-and-salty with just the right amount of spice, and the chicken galbi was cut into bite-size pieces — the kind of flavor anyone could enjoy 🥰 Especially good mixed with the gim-garu (seaweed flakes) on top!

There was plenty of sauce too, so it stayed moist and delicious all the way to the last bite. Best home-cooked-style Korean food... and not aggressively spicy either!

Extra yukhoe tossed in spicy sauce

I've usually had yukhoe in a soy-sauce-based style, but here at 1992 it came tossed in a slightly spicy sauce instead. Sprinkled with sesame seeds, which added a nice nutty flavor too.

Soft steamed egg chosen as a side dish

Which side is better, steamed egg or fried egg?

The steamed egg was better than I expected...bbb I picked two fried eggs and my friend picked the steamed egg, and it really paired well with the spicy dish. So soft and delicious that I think I'll order the steamed egg next time too! Highly recommend💛

What comes with the solo meat set with pork belly?

What I ordered was the solo meat set at 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli 🫶 Meat lovers can't skip this

Solo meat set ordered with pork belly

Pork belly grilled with mushrooms, onions, and shishito peppers

I ordered pork belly, and they served it with a sesame-oil dipping sauce and a basic ssamjang sauce, separately. The pork belly was grilled together with mushrooms, onions, shishito peppers, and green onion, which made for an even richer flavor.

Both sauces were good, but personally the sesame-oil sauce was the perfect match... ㅠㅠㅠㅠ I ate it so happily❣️❣️ I basically dipped everything in this one lol

Two soft-yolk fried eggs served as a side

The fried eggs came soft-yolk, just how I like them~ I always only fry one side, and 1992 shares my taste, which made me happy hehe❤️ If you prefer hard-yolk eggs, I'd recommend ordering the steamed egg instead.

Is 1992 Deopbap worth it for lunch near Gangnam Station?

That's my review of 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch, a Gangnam Station spot I really enjoyed!! The interior wasn't especially spacious, but even on a weekday early evening, lots of people were eating there — clearly a popular place. After trying it myself, I get why everyone comes here....😍

It's an affordable, filling Gangnam Station spot where you can eat for under ₩15,000 per person, so if you're looking for a good-value Korean restaurant for lunch near the office, I'd definitely recommend a visit. That wraps up my review!
