Gwangjin café with outdoor seats and buttery pastries: Stack Bakery

In short

Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch is a bakery café in Gwangjin, Seoul, serving house-made croissants and French-style pastries. I tried the Stack Croissant, plain kouign-amann, and Nutella & Peanut Pastry, and loved the outdoor tables and second-floor window seats. Verdict: a lovely stop for crisp, buttery pastries with coffee.

Stack Bakery croissants and pastries

I was hanging out around Konkuk University recently, haha. After a meal, a café is essential, right? >< I heard that Stack Bakery was a popular croissant bakery café in the area, so I went straight over!

Stack Bakery location and exterior

Stack Bakery is near Exit 5 of Konkuk University Station or Exit 1 of Jayang Station! It was a little walk from the subway, but it is quite close to a bus stop, so coming by bus might be a bit easier :) The building itself had such a nice atmosphere, and there were outdoor seats too! In cool weather like this, it would be perfect to sit outside with coffee and bread, haha.

By the time I was leaving the café, it had gotten a little dark outside! Once the lights came on, it looked even prettier in a totally different mood from daytime ㅠㅠ I loved the atmosphere so much that I took one more photo before leaving, hehe.

A cozy interior, all the way to the second-floor windows

This is the inside of Stack Bakery! There was even an area styled like a photo zone, and the overall interior was so pretty, haha.

There also seemed to be celebrity signatures, so it was fun to look around!

The second floor was cozily decorated too. There were not a huge number of tables, so it had a nice atmosphere for sitting quietly :)

The view from the window seats was exactly my style, haha.

I heard Stack Bakery mainly focuses on croissants and French-style pastries made in-house, haha. So there were so many different pastries! There were so many delicious-looking choices that it was a happy dilemma ㅠㅠ After much thought, we ordered an iced Americano, strawberry latte, Stack Croissant, plain kouign-amann, and Nutella & Peanut Pastry.

Ordered drinks and pastries

Our order arrived! Hahaha. I am such a huge bread lover ㅠㅠㅠ It looked delicious just sitting there.

Dessert and iced Americano

I do not usually drink coffee, but since I am dieting, an iced Americano is just perfect with dessert, haha.

Plain bread and chocolate pastry

I usually like plain bread, but it would be a shame to eat only plain bread, right? You have to have one chocolate pastry too ^^ I neatly cut the pastries into easy-to-eat pieces! Let the bread-cutting ceremony begin, hahaha.

And the first thing I tried was the Stack Croissant! Maybe because this is a pastry specialist, the moment I took a bite, the outside shattered crisply and the layers really came through ㅠㅠ The exterior was crisp, while the inside was not dry at all—it was moist and soft—so the contrast in texture was so good. Above all, the gentle buttery aroma and nutty flavor that spread as I chewed were seriously great...! It was a simple, not-too-sweet style, so it was perfect with coffee too, hehe.

The plain kouign-amann had a charm quite different from the simple croissant! Its sweetly coated exterior gave it a lightly crisp bite and a burst of sweetness, haha. And the Nutella & Peanut Pastry was a flavor that could not possibly be bad ㅠ The rich Nutella chocolate flavor paired with nutty peanut notes, making it properly sweet and nutty! It was such a sweet pastry that it really gave me a sugar boost.

Croissant sandwich ordered by another customer

As we finished eating and left the café, another customer had ordered a croissant sandwich. It looked so good that I snapped a quick photo, hahaha. The vegetables inside looked really fresh, and the ham looked delicious too. Maybe I will order a sandwich next time, hehe.
