Gwangjin café with color-changing green grape ade: Wonz Coffee

In short

Wonz Coffee Children's Grand Park Main Branch is a specialty coffee café between Guui Station and Children's Grand Park in Gwangjin, Seoul. The mango milk bingsu had no icy texture at all and the green grape ade came with a separate blue liquid you add yourself to adjust color and taste. Known mainly for its coffee, this café turned out to be just as worth a repeat visit for its desserts and drinks alone.

Exterior of Wonz Coffee Children's Grand Park Main Branch

I wanted something cold and refreshing near Children's Grand Park, so while looking around for a café I got pulled in by the somewhat distinctive vibe of Wonz Coffee Children's Grand Park Main Branch.

Entrance of Wonz Coffee, a specialty coffee café in Guui-dong

Wonz Coffee is a pretty well-known specialty coffee spot around Guui-dong, but this time instead of coffee I went for the summer menu — mango bingsu (shaved ice) and green grape ade. With summer winding down, I ordered the bingsu almost as an afterthought, and honestly it might be the best bingsu of my life.

The clean, comfortable vibe at Wonz Coffee, and parking

Wonz Coffee sits between Guui Station and Children's Grand Park.

There's space for about two cars to park right in front of the store, and it's also a convenient spot to visit from the Guuimun gate side of Children's Grand Park.

Overall the café had a clean, calm atmosphere.

Clean, calm seating inside Wonz Coffee

True to a café that treats coffee seriously, you could feel that dedication in every corner of the space.

That said, it wasn't so heavy or stiff that you'd feel obligated to order coffee.

Table at Wonz Coffee good for sitting alone

It's a nice place to sit alone with a coffee, hang out with a friend over dessert, or take a break after a trip to Children's Grand Park. The staff were kind too, so I had a pleasant time overall.

Wonz Coffee is roasted and brewed directly by a national team barista, so you can pick from specialty coffee and a variety of beans. I don't know much about coffee flavor profiles, so I went with bingsu and ade depending on my mood, but next time I definitely want to go back with coffee-loving friends.

Sweet mango bingsu and a green grape ade with a wild visual

Bingsu (shaved ice dessert) is something you have to eat at least once every summer! I hadn't had any this year, so I caught the last train, so to speak.

The mango bingsu here looked amazing from the start, and it came out a bit different from your typical mango bingsu.

The base is milk bingsu, and the texture of the milk was insanely soft — no unpleasant crunching on ice at all.

I find it uncomfortable to eat bingsu where you can feel even the tiniest ice particles. But Wonz Coffee's milk bingsu had absolutely none of that.

It's truly finely-shaved milk ice that melts away smoothly in your mouth.

It felt as comfortable to eat as soft milk itself, so I really enjoyed it.

Mango goes on top, and since all the toppings are served separately, you can mix in as much as you like to your taste.

The condition of the mango was also excellent. Usually when you order mango bingsu at a café, the frozen mango comes out rock hard and crunchy — I don't like that texture. It's too hard, uncomfortable to eat, and even hurts my teeth.

Plate of soft-textured mango topping

Wonz Coffee's mango had a very soft texture, like properly chilled refrigerated mango rather than frozen. It was easy to eat right away, and I could really taste the mango's own sweetness and juiciness.

A spoonful of mango on top of milk bingsu

Since the mango was sweet and delicious, the combination with the soft milk bingsu worked really well.

The green grape ade I ordered alongside it was also delicious.

Green grape ade served with a separate blue liquid

This one was different from your average green grape ade too.

They give you a separate blue liquid alongside the ade, and you add as much as you like into the drink, adjusting it to your own taste.

The color is pretty, and being able to adjust the concentration yourself adds a fun element — it looks great too.

There were also plenty of actual green grapes in it. It wasn't just grape-flavored ade — they put in a generous amount of real green grapes, so you get to eat fruit and drink ade at once, two birds with one stone.

Table with bingsu and ade together

Wonz Coffee has a strong image as a coffee specialty shop, but visiting in person, I found the bingsu and ade just as memorably satisfying as the coffee.

The mango bingsu in particular is truly the best bingsu of my life, so you have to try it at least once.

A pleasant, cool space, kind staff, and drinks and desserts that were just too good! This is a place I definitely want to go back to.
