Yongbong-dong bar in Gwangju with KBO on projector: Kkankkanhan
In short
Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch is a charcoal-grilled jokbal (pork trotters) restaurant in the middle of the Yongbong-dong bar street in Buk-gu, Gwangju. Two diners ordered the medium old-style royal jokbal for 41,000 won, ate it with the free spread of skewered fish cake soup, steamed egg and ssam vegetables, and cleared the spicy pork tail earned through the receipt review event. With a TV and projectors on both walls showing KBO baseball, Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch is an especially good pick for baseball fans.

Where is Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch, and when is it open?
Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch is open daily from 16:00 to 23:30 (last order 23:20), with no parking available. If you search for Yongbong-dong restaurants or Yongbong-dong bars, this place comes up quite a lot.

I went to #Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch. It's right in the middle of the bar street, so it's super super easy to get to!

The jokbal here is grilled over charcoal, which makes it extra special and a flavor I find myself craving pretty often.

The kitchen is fully open to view, so it's the kind of place that could pull in passersby off the street.

If you order takeout by visiting in person or calling, you get a ₩3,000 discount! (Doesn't apply if you order through a delivery app.)

Group tables and the KBO baseball projectors
Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch has plenty of seats inside, and if you come with a group they'll push tables together to make a group setup — great as a casual gathering spot or a first stop for a night out in Yongbong-dong. (There's a table for 6 to begin with.)

What I liked most was that the store has a TV and a projector so you can watch KBO baseball. If you love baseball, this place is a strong recommendation whether it's a weekday or weekend!

The TV screen was live like this, and they'd thoughtfully mounted projectors on both sides so you can see the game from anywhere. Kia won that day! Haha, made the food taste twice as good.

Kiosk ordering and the receipt review event
There's a kiosk at every table — you order there and pay when you leave. The receipt review event looked really generous, so I joined in too! (Rice ball / pork tail / mini jokbal.) I ordered the pork tail, but honestly all three options were tempting.

The free spread: ssam vegetables, fish cake soup, steamed egg
The basic spread comes out right away: ssam vegetables (perilla leaves, lettuce, chili), dried radish strips, salad, and pickled radish.

Garlic and a variety of sauces.

And they thoughtfully bring out a soup with skewered fish cake in it. Having broth definitely makes everything go down easier.

Steamed egg also comes as a basic side dish from the start!

What does the 41,000-won medium old-style royal jokbal taste like?
At Kkankkanhan I always used to order the charcoal-grilled jokbal, but this time I ordered the old-style royal jokbal for ₩41,000.

I ordered the medium size, which is a good amount for 2–3 people. The sides that come with it are satisfying too, so I'd strongly recommend eating it in the restaurant.
Look how tender it is when you pick it up with chopsticks 👏👏👏

The ratio of skin to meat was just right, and it wasn't mushy either,

This old-style royal jokbal was the first time I'd ordered this menu item here — it's a version of the basic charcoal jokbal without the smoky charcoal flavor added, so it's less polarizing and something anyone can enjoy.

It's not fully hot but not cold either, so it wasn't dry — good for eating continuously.

Side dish refills and the dried radish combination
They also give you a generous amount of dried radish strips, and eating them plain with the jokbal like this turned out to be even tastier. If the side dishes run low, you can order more right away from the kiosk, which was really convenient.

Added more garlic, added more lettuce — this just turns into a complete endless loop of eating jokbal.
Eating jokbal, then the soup, then back to jokbal again — I fully approve of this endless combination.

Spicy pork tail from the review event
For something you get from a review event, the #spicy pork tail was surprisingly substantial and satisfying. It was more than a taste-test portion, so we kept going back and forth between the jokbal and the pork tail, haha.

It was much tastier than the pork tail I usually eat, and it made me determined that next time at Kkankkanhan, I'll try the fire jokbal or spicy jokbal.

Finally, picking the jokbal clean down to the bone and skin naturally makes you say 'I really ate well today'... 👍👍 We finished it all between the two of us with nothing left to take home!

Even gave the pig's head a thorough handling on the way out. I was surprised at how quickly the place fills up, but after eating there, I completely understand why. I think I'll be back soon — this is a Kkankkanhan Yongbong branch you should visit! 👏👏
