Mangwon café solo visit: aged French toast with ice cream, PICT

Today I visited PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch, which is famous in Mangwon for its aged French toast and house-roasted coffee. I was craving French toast so badly that I went alone — here's the review.

For parking, please use the Mangwon 1-dong Community Center or the Mangwon Market parking lot. I'd actually recommend public transit over driving 🙆🏻‍♀️

Getting there from Mangwon Station

PICT Roastery is about a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Station Exit 2. It's close to Mangwon Market and Mangridan-gil, and you can walk to Hangang Park from there too — honestly might be the perfect date course if you turn it into a little stroll.

There's no separate signboard — if you've found the red brick building, that's it, that's PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch 👏🏻

Just head down a little through the open door on the right side of the building 🚪

An interior that works solo or in groups

The inside was bigger than I expected, with plenty of tables — a café that can fit anywhere from solo visitors to groups.

I visited on a weekday afternoon, and the moment I walked in, the quiet, calm atmosphere really won me over. I was there for other work, but it also seemed like a great spot to read a book.

Whenever I go to a café alone I usually have my AirPods in, but the vibe at PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch was so good that I actually enjoyed some rare AirPods-free alone time 🫧

Menu and bean selection

Here's PICT Roastery's menu — coffee, tea, drinks, and a variety of desserts. I came specifically for the aged French toast, so I ordered it without a second thought.

French toast takes about 20 minutes

Since the French toast is made to order, they told me it would take 📍20 minutes📍, so I asked them to bring it out together with the coffee. Everything is brought right to your table, and cakes and tiramisu come out immediately, so if waiting isn't your thing, I'd recommend going for a slice of cake instead ✔️

24-hour aged French toast + ice cream

I was craving something really sweet that day. Normally I'd just order the French toast plain, but for maximum sweetness I added ice cream too, turning it into the ultimate indulgence.

Just looking at it feels like an instant sugar rush ✨ The size was big and the toast was thick, so if you eat small portions this could honestly stand in for a meal.

The top of the aged French toast is finished with a brûlée touch. You can tell there's real care put into even a single menu item 🥹

The moment I cut into it, it was so soft the ice cream nearly toppled over... Being aged 24 hours, the softness you feel from the first cut is beyond anything I expected.

One bite gives you the soft toast, a bit of sugar crunch, and a hint of ice cream all at once — pure happiness.

Piling the ice cream onto the toast brings the cool cream and the fluffy French toast together for the best combination.

Always add the ice cream. No questions asked, just do it 🍨

House-roasted nutty iced americano

I picked the nutty beans, and true to a house-roasting café, the mellow nuttiness lingered from the first sip to the last — I get why this place is also famous as a good coffee spot in Seoul.

I've tried a lot of famous French toast spots, but PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch was the first one that nailed soft, fluffy texture and a sweetness that never gets cloying, all at once. The whole time I was there, delivery orders kept coming in nonstop. Mangwon-dong residents, I'm so jealous ㅠㅠ

The coffee really... pairs so well with the French toast. Sweet toast plus iced americano is a combo that never fails ☕️ By the way, isn't this cup just too cute?

Ordering tip: ask for the ice cream on the side

📍 The ice cream melts faster than you'd think 📍 I tend to eat very slowly, whether it's a meal or dessert, so by the time I got through it the melted ice cream had soaked into the bread. I actually liked that — extra sweet. But if you want to enjoy the crispness of the French toast all the way through, I'd recommend asking for the ice cream on the side.

The restroom inside is unisex and very clean 🚻
