Mornings and evenings have a real chill in the air now, and the gap between day and night temperatures makes it feel like fall. I had a dinner appointment in Seoul recently, so I looked up a well-reviewed Korean BBQ spot near Gangnam Station. Not just the meat but the generous banchan (side dishes) and the whole atmosphere won me over — visiting in person, I thought it'd make a great spot for a group dinner too, so let me introduce it ❤️

It's a Korean BBQ restaurant that specializes in aged pork belly along with a variety of other pork dishes, located on the ground floor of 20 Gangnam-daero 98-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Hours run from 11:30 to 00:30 the next day, closing at 23:00 on Sundays.

Seating inside: does it work for a group dinner?

Interior with wood-tone tables and sofa-style seating

Walking in, the warm wood-tone tables and black sofa-style seating caught my eye first. The seating ranged from tables for two to arrangements for larger groups. The soft lighting made the whole space feel cozy yet lively — I'd recommend this place for a group dinner or evening get-together near Gangnam Station, and it'd even work for an anniversary date!

Outdoor terrace seating by the window

There's also an outdoor terrace by the window. With the nice fall weather these days, eating out on the terrace would be lovely. And since wine corkage is available here too, it could be an appealing option for anyone who wants to pair their meat with wine 👍🏼

What comes in the homemade banchan basket?

A full basket of banchan side dishes served at the table

What stood out most about Kkondae Kim Bujang was the basic side dishes served alongside the meat. At most Korean BBQ spots I've visited near Gangnam Station, you usually just get a handful of simple banchan, but here the table came loaded with a whole basket of what looked like homemade, seasonal side dishes — the spread was generous from the start.

Ssamjang, salt, turmeric powder and injeolmi powder dipping sauces

Looking at the dipping sauces first, there was ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), salt, turmeric powder and injeolmi (rice cake) powder. It was nice being able to mix and match depending on the cut of meat or my mood, and dipping into the nutty injeolmi powder felt like a fun twist. For wraps, there were perilla leaves, lettuce and peppers. Wasabi, pickled onion and garlic were also all set out in the basket 👏🏼

The basket also held napa cabbage and a variety of other side dishes — so many that it was fun going through them one by one. The cucumber-and-squid muchim (spicy dressed salad) in particular had a tangy sauce that really got the appetite going.

There were even the rarer eorigulgeot (salted oyster) and myeongnanjeot (salted pollack roe), both bringing a briny, savory kick — the kind of side dish that makes plain rice disappear on its own! I don't usually see these at BBQ restaurants, so they stood out and were delicious ❤️

On top of that, there was pink sausage jeon (pan-fried pink sausage), mushroom jeon and kimchi. The pink sausage jeon had a nostalgic, homestyle feel to it,

and the mushroom jeon and acorn jelly were both mild and tasty. From kimchi and napa cabbage to cucumber-squid muchim, acorn jelly, salted oyster and roe, and various jeon, there was so much variety that picking through the banchan while eating the meat was its own kind of fun.

The water was served hygienically in 500ml bottles too, which added to the clean overall feel 👍🏼

Tasting the 200g aged whole pork belly and 150g fat pork skin

Raw aged whole pork belly and pork skin as ordered

What I ordered at Kkondae Kim Bujang Gogi-jip near Gangnam Station was two portions of aged whole pork belly (200g each), one portion of fat pork skin (150g), and a Zero Coke. A single portion of meat here is 200g, which is what made this place feel especially generous ❤️

A thick 200g portion of aged whole pork belly

Sometimes at Korean BBQ places these days the single-portion size can feel a bit lacking, but here the base portion is already a hearty 200g, which was all the more satisfying. On top of that, the staff grilled the meat from start to finish ❤️

From putting the meat on the grill, to flipping it, to cooking it to just the right doneness — they took care of everything, so I could just focus on eating and talking.

The aged whole pork belly had a thick, hearty cut right from the first look! The staff grilled it into bite-sized pieces, and the golden-brown finish on the pork belly looked great—

I could really taste the nutty flavor and just-right fattiness that's unique to pork belly!

Laying the meat on the wrap leaves with ssamjang, salt or wasabi gave it a different flavor with each combination, which I loved :)

I tried the wasabi-plus-myeongnanjeot combo, and honestly, it became my personal favorite pairing 😘

A thick 150g portion of fat pork skin

Next up was the fat pork skin (150g), true to its name with a thick, hearty cut! It's said to be as popular as the meat itself at this Gangnam Station spot, so I had high expectations,

and once grilled just right by the staff, the chewy texture genuinely surprised me!

Pork skin dipped in soybean powder

Dipping it in the nutty soybean powder on top made it taste just as good as the pork belly — I finished every bite. I don't usually eat pork skin dishes, but I'll be coming back here for it 👍🏼

Final verdict on this Gangnam Station Korean BBQ

Kkondae Kim Bujang Gogi-jip, found while searching for Korean BBQ near Gangnam Station! The staff-grilled aged pork belly, the thick pork skin, and the generous basic side dishes all left me really satisfied.
