Seongsu Mediterranean restaurant, 3 signature dishes: Billadeubeulleu

In short

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu is a Mediterranean Italian restaurant near Seongsu and Seoul Forest stations in Seongdong, Seoul, relocated from Haebangchon. On a return visit after a birthday gathering in May, the writer ordered three dishes — aligot cheese lasagna, polpo mambo and gnocchi fritti — and the cheese-waterfall lasagna and the crisp-outside, tender-inside octopus stood out most. Billadeubeulleu Seongsu has no parking lot of its own, so public transport and a Naver reservation are the easiest way to go.

Having moved here after building a huge following in Haebangchon, Billadeubeulleu Seongsu is a stylish space that feels like an artist's villa-slash-studio somewhere on a southern European resort coastline.

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu signature menu

  • Aligot cheese lasagna: famous for the cheese waterfall poured tableside over the lasagna.
  • Ghee-butter T-bone steak: a savory steak drizzled with fragrant ghee butter, at roughly half the price of Outback.
  • Recommended for special occasions: with such a great atmosphere and friendly service, it's perfect for dates, birthday gatherings, blind dates, or bridal shower meetups.

On this revisit, the three dishes we tried at Billadeubeulleu Seongsu were aligot cheese lasagna, polpo mambo, and gnocchi fritti.

Aligot cheese lasagna: they pour a generous, stretchy, savory aligot cheese sauce over the freshly made lasagna, and the combination of deep ragu sauce and cheese is fantastic.

Polpo mambo: a Mediterranean-style octopus dish with romesco sauce, potatoes, and peas, where the octopus is crispy outside and tender inside — the texture is really excellent.

Gnocchi fritti: not the usual cream-sauce gnocchi, but crispy fried gnocchi dipped in aioli sauce, making for a wonderfully different treat!
