Side dishes and the self-serve corner at Ganaandeok

Basic table setting with wrap vegetables and side dishes
Basic side dishes including chive salad and seasoned bean sprouts

These are the basic side dishes. Along with wrap vegetables like lettuce and perilla leaves, there was a nice variety of banchan (side dishes) — pickled radish, chive salad, cabbage salad, seasoned bean sprouts, pickled onion, kimchi, and more!! On top of that, at this duck restaurant in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, you get one roasted sweet potato per person for free! So you can put the sweet potato in the charcoal to roast, enjoy the duck first, and then finish off with dessert sweet potato for a complete course haha.

Warm seaweed soup at the self-serve corner

On one side there's a self-serve corner with a solid variety. If you run out, you can easily refill.

I liked how well-kept it was, and there was even warm seaweed soup, which felt great on the stomach haha.

How did the 700g charcoal-grilled raw duck taste?

Raw duck charcoal grill, 700g, served on a plate

The raw duck we ordered passed the visual test right away, with bright red meat and a good ratio of fat.

Since it's a whole 700g portion, it came out piled generously on the plate haha.

When you put the duck meat and whole garlic on the heated grill grate together and grill them~~~ the fat drips down and the charcoal aroma naturally soaks into the surface of the meat!

Duck meat is best taken off the grill when it turns golden rather than cooked all the way through. It can burn easily, so keep moving it around with your tongs!!

Charcoal-grilled duck dipped in ssamjang

The taste of the meat, need I say more~~ When you bite in, there's no dryness, the texture is chewy, and there was no gamey smell at all. If you like, wrap the grilled duck, garlic, and crunchy bean sprout salad or chive salad in perilla leaf or lettuce for a bite where the crunch of the vegetables and the savoriness of the meat come together nicely.

Even just dipping it lightly in basic ssamjang (dipping sauce) or salt lets the clean flavor of the meat itself shine, and it's total rice-thief material!! Duck restaurant in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, approved~

Free duck mung bean porridge with every order

They give you duck mung bean porridge for free here too,,,,

Topping the porridge served alongside with a well-grilled piece of duck makes for a soft, clean combination that's perfect to have midway through the meal!!

Dessert: sweet potatoes roasted over the charcoal

Foil-wrapped roasted sweet potato pulled from the charcoal grill

As the meal was wrapping up, they took the grill off and pulled out the roasted sweet potato! It's this place's specialty. Peel the foil off the well-cooked sweet potato and it's golden yellow inside, moist, with a sweet aroma rising up!

The sweet potato wasn't dry at all, it was soft, and topping it with the well-ripened napa cabbage kimchi from the self-serve corner made for a refreshing, crunchy contrast against the sweetness — a clean, non-cloying way to end the meal haha.

Corner with coffee and bead ice cream

There's coffee too, and they even sell bead ice cream...!! A truly happy way to wrap up the day!

What stood out at Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch

  • The self-serve corner is well stocked with varied, fresh banchan and wrap vegetables
  • The sweet finish of charcoal-roasted sweet potato after the meal is a real specialty
  • The soft, warm mung bean porridge served with the meal makes for a clean finish!
