Neul Gogi Jip: Icheon meat restaurant where staff grill pork ribs

In short

Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is a Korean meat restaurant on Gyeongchung-daero in Icheon, Gyeonggi, where staff grill the meat at your table for you. We ordered 3 servings of nuruk (malt) marinated pork ribs and pork neck plus mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), refilled lettuce, garlic and ssamjang freely at the ssam vegetable self-serve bar, and ate with the tongs kept just for eating. With no grilling to handle yourself, Neul Gogi Jip is an easy place to sit and linger over a family meal or a group dinner.

Awards on display around Neul Gogi Jip

Certificates and award medals displayed on the wall

While looking around the inside of the restaurant, I noticed various certificates, plaques and award medals displayed on the wall.

It gave the impression that this isn't just a place that sells meat, but one that puts real care into its menu and food.

What the dining room is like: spacious and clean

Spacious interior with orange accent decor

The inside of Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch was bigger than I expected.

The interior had orange as an accent color, giving it a bright, clean atmosphere, and the tables were spaced apart enough that you didn't feel too close to your neighbors.

Even during busy hours the seating seemed relatively generous, so it looked like a good spot for a family meal out or a gathering.

Ssam vegetable self-serve bar: refill as much as you want

One of the things I really liked about Neul Gogi Jip was the self-serve bar haha

There were a variety of ssam vegetables ready, including lettuce, perilla leaves and cabbage, and you could take as much garlic, chili and ssamjang as you needed.

When you're eating meat, the lettuce or garlic runs out fast, and calling a staff member every time can feel a bit awkward.

At Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch you just grab more from the self-serve bar yourself, so you can refill as much as you want without worrying about it — really convenient.

For those of us who eat a lot of ssam vegetables, this was especially satisfying. Thinking about this kind of convenience, it's one of the reasons I'd recommend this to anyone looking for good food in Icheon.

The side dishes that come with the meal

Table laid out with several kinds of basic side dishes

When you order meat, several kinds of basic side dishes come out with it.

There was a good variety, from japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) to seasoned dishes and vegetable side dishes, so there was fun in picking at them one by one even before the meat was cooked.

Some BBQ restaurants only give you one or two side dishes, but here there were several to go with the meal, which made the table look more plentiful.

In particular, alternating between the seasoned meat and the side dishes cut the richness and made it easy to keep eating happily until the end.

Malt-marinated pork ribs and pork neck, 3 servings, grilled by staff

The main dish we ordered was 3 servings of the malt-marinated pork short rib and pork neck (nuruk yangnyeom dwaeji galbi mokssal).

The name already sounded a bit different from regular pork ribs, so I was curious what it would taste like — and once it went on the grill and started cooking, it looked delicious just from the visuals haha

What I liked most was that a staff member grilled the meat for us‼️‼️

At a lot of BBQ restaurants, whoever's grilling has to keep watching the grill the whole time, so they can't really eat properly or keep up with the conversation.

At Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch, since the staff grill the meat for you, you can just sit comfortably and enjoy only the perfectly cooked pieces — it was really nice.

Separate tongs just for eating, not grilling

There was one more thing that turned out to be really useful — a separate pair of tongs just for picking up the cooked meat.

Dedicated tongs for eating the meat

Having separate tongs for grilling and for eating was nice for hygiene, and they were easier to use than chopsticks for picking up bigger pieces of meat, so I kept using them throughout the meal.

It might seem like a small thing, but once you actually experience it, these little details feel pretty convenient 😊

How did the malt-marinated pork ribs and pork neck taste?

Fully cooked malt-marinated pork short rib and pork neck

Taking a bite of the well-cooked meat, the seasoning wasn't overly strong or sharp.

It had a sweetish, savory flavor, and the meat itself was moist and tender, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.

A lettuce wrap with pork rib, garlic and ssamjang

Putting a piece of the pork rib on lettuce with garlic and ssamjang… meat really does taste best wrapped in ssam 😆

If you like seasoned meat, this is a dish you can enjoy without much fuss.

Add to that the fact that you don't have to grill it yourself, and it's a great restaurant in Icheon to visit whenever you want to eat meat the easy way.

Finishing with mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles)

Mul naengmyeon with shaved ice broth

When we'd almost finished the meat, we ordered mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup). The broth had bits of shaved ice floating in it, with a generous amount of noodles and toppings — it looked refreshing just to look at.

After eating the sweetish seasoned pork ribs, the cool naengmyeon felt like it cleaned up the palate perfectly.

The savory richness of the seasoned meat paired well with the cold broth, so we enjoyed it all the way to the last bite.

Ice cream and coffee in the dessert area after the meal

Dessert lounge with ice cream and coffee

After finishing the meal, we could move to a separate dessert lounge.

After eating meat your mouth can feel a little greasy, so finishing off with something sweet like ice cream hit the spot perfectly.

There was even coffee available, so for anyone who doesn't want to leave right after eating, it seemed like a nice spot to sit and relax for a bit.

Tables and chairs set up in the dessert lounge

The dessert lounge had tables and chairs set up too, and I liked that it let you wrap up the meal more leisurely than at a typical BBQ restaurant.

Final verdict on Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch

Wrapping up the meal at Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch

The biggest advantage of Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch was that the staff grill the meat for you, so you can eat comfortably the whole time. Being able to freely grab vegetables and other ingredients at the self-serve bar, plus having dedicated tongs just for eating, also gave the impression that a lot of thought had gone into the details.

The combination of the malt-marinated pork short rib and pork neck (3 servings) with mul naengmyeon was satisfying, and being able to enjoy ice cream and coffee afterward made the whole visit comfortable right to the end.

If you're looking for a BBQ restaurant for a family meal or a gathering, or if you want to enjoy pork ribs without the hassle of grilling them yourself, Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is worth a visit as a good place to eat in Icheon 😊
