Why Mibundang Myeongji Branch for pho alone in Myeongji?

A day for fieldwork in Gangseo! Even though Gangseo is far from where I live, it's quiet and outside rush hour there isn't much traffic, so it's really nice to drive around. 😸

For this trip out I decided to try solo dining. I don't eat much alone and tend to feel a bit shy about it, so I don't usually do solo meals.

But Mibundang, a well-known spot in Myeongji, is such a great place for solo dining that I zipped right over. 😊

Where Mibundang Myeongji Branch is and where to park

Mibundang Myeongji Branch is at 41 Myeongji-guk je 2-ro, Gangseo-gu, Busan, South Korea (판매시설동 1층 141호), inside the Myeongji Posco 3-danji shopping complex. Park in the underground lot at the Myeongji First World Shine building — 1 hour is supported.

The entrance has warm wooden interior — a cozy first impression. :)

Since the area has so many shopping complexes, there was plenty of space in the underground lot. Parking support and easy parking — total win!

I parked on B2, went down to B1, and found Mibundang on the left side among the shops there.

The storefront and how ordering works

At Mibundang Myeongji Branch you order first at the kiosk outside. The menu shows up on the kiosk screen, and there's also a printed menu board on the right.

If there's a wait, they have cold water and cups ready for you. Such a thoughtful touch!! ❤️

I visited a bit after the lunch rush, around 1pm, so luckily there was no wait. :)

Walking in, I saw a note at the entrance saying Mibundang was created 'in line with the owner's wish to make a space where anyone can eat in a quiet and comfortable atmosphere.' Encouraging words for someone like me who finds solo dining hard. ❤️🩷💛💚

They also do takeout, available as fully cooked or half-cooked.

Inside Mibundang Myeongji Branch: bar seats built for solo diners

Inside Mibundang Myeongji Branch, the seating is a bar table wrapped around the kitchen in the center. Further in, there are wall hooks for coats and bags, and a blanket by the entrance for when it's cold.

The restroom is a shared complex restroom, so there's tissue and the door code written up. I used it too — men's and women's restrooms are separated and kept clean.

Coming through the entrance, the kitchen sits in the center with bar seating wrapped around it. There's a fabric divider on the kitchen side too, so it doesn't feel too exposed. ☺️

Since it's a well-known spot in Myeongji, even past lunchtime the seats kept filling and turning over — families, friends, and solo diners like me.

Above the seat were three sauces — hot sauce, chili sauce, and hoisin sauce — plus a hair tie. Right under the table in a drawer were sauce dishes, utensils, and tissues, all handy to use.

On the table there were instructions for how to enjoy the pho and other notes. Little touches like this made me happy and showed how thoughtful the place is. 💛

There's also a receipt review event — write a review and show it to staff for 2 free pieces of shrimp roll. :)

Eating the brisket pho and shrimp potato rolls

For a solo-friendly order, I picked brisket pho for 11,500 won and shrimp potato rolls for 3,500 won. Everything on the Mibundang menu looks good, but you can't skip a side — non-negotiable!!

I wanted to try the assorted fritter platter with all the different cha gio too, but it seemed like too much for one person, so I saved that for a visit with my husband and picked my favorite, shrimp potato rolls, instead. 😊

After ordering and sitting down, they set out side dishes, a small plate, cold water, and an apron. They place them on the shelf right in front of your table so you can just pull them down onto the table while seated. 😊 And if you need anything more while eating, put it back on the shelf and they'll refill it.

My brisket pho and shrimp potato rolls arrived. Just looking at them, they seemed hearty and delicious. Plated so nicely too. 😸

It really was perfect for solo dining. Everyone was just quietly eating, so as a solo diner I felt totally at ease.

The shrimp potato rolls have potato noodles rolled up inside shrimp meat, so for someone who loves both shrimp and potato, this side is exactly my kind of thing! :) Really packed inside, and it goes great with chili sauce. Fried items like this pair so well with clean-tasting pho. 😊

The brisket pho loaded with beef!!! I tried the broth first, and it was clean and refreshing. It's tasty even without adding any sauce, so I stuck to the plain flavor at first, staying true to the basics. Would also be great as a hangover cure the morning after drinking!

The brisket, the bean sprouts, the noodles, the scallion and pepper toppings — all generously piled on, and the combination was just right. 😸

How to mix in the scallions, chili and hot sauce

Following the instructions on the table, I mixed scallion, pepper, and hot sauce in a small bowl with the noodles, brisket, and bean sprouts, and it was so delicious. As someone who loves spicy food, this mixed version was a total win.

Partway through, I added a bit of hoisin sauce too, and the flavor got even richer. 👍🏻

After eating about half, I added hot sauce for a spicier version, and that was also delicious. Before the sauce it was clean and refreshing; after adding hot sauce it became spicy and rich, like a whole new dish. 🩷

Would I come back to Mibundang Myeongji Branch to eat alone?

Mibundang, a well-known Myeongji restaurant, is clean and set up well for solo dining, so even people nervous about eating alone, like me, can visit easily. It was a great place to eat and just focus on the food.

The owner was kind too, checking in with guests mid-meal to ask if they needed more bean sprouts or broth. The portions were already generous, so I said I was fine. 😸

The brisket pho and side were both so good that next time I'll get the half-cooked takeout and eat it at home. :)
