Extra-tripe sundae soup, spicy and clear, near Juan Station: Suraok

In short

Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch is a sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup) restaurant near Juan Station in Michuhol, Incheon. A couple stopped in before a night workout and ordered one spicy extra-tripe sundaeguk and one clear Suraok extra-tripe sundaeguk, adding just one set meal between them; the tripe was tender rather than chewy, gently seasoned and free of any gamey smell. With extra garlic and chives from the self-serve banchan bar and a yakult after the meal, Suraok Sundaeguk is the kind of sundaeguk spot worth returning to again and again.

Today I'm introducing Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch, my nth visit! It's near my office so my husband and I go there fairly often — it's clean and delicious. This time we were heading out for a night workout, so we wanted a solid meal beforehand.

What two people ordered, and why only one set meal

We ordered the spicy extra-tripe sundaeguk and the plain (Suraok) extra-tripe sundaeguk. Last time we each added a set meal and it was way too much, so this time we only added one, haha. They also sell a separate kids' menu, which is nice. Next time I want to have a drink too — I really want to try the boiled sliced meat (pyeonyuk), haha.

You can help yourself to whatever you need at the self-serve banchan bar! Diced radish kimchi, onion and chives are provided at the start, and you can grab anything extra from there. I like piling on lots of garlic and chives, so I went back for more. There was also a baby at another table, and a staff member brought over a baby spoon without being asked — I thought that was really thoughtful!

Suraok, a well-known sundaeguk spot near Juan Station, says it uses 100% domestic beef bones and purified cooking water for its broth! And takeout gets ₩1,000 off every menu item! Hearing about that discount honestly makes me want to swing by for takeout next time... I might just grab some on my way home, haha.

Set meal first, then the sundae soup

The food really comes out so neatly! The added set meal arrives first, so you can nibble on it while waiting, and then the soup lands right on cue. It genuinely felt like being served with the same care you'd give a king, which made me happy.

A bite taken out of the tender liver

I took a bite of the liver and it was so soft and tasty that I had to take a photo, haha. There's genuinely zero gamey smell here. And it's so tender.

I like eating sundae with garlic ssamjang (garlic dipping sauce). The smell is... a bit much, haha, but the garlic and onion are so good — though I do feel like the smell lingers inside me until the next day. Anyone else the same, haha?

What does the spicy extra-tripe sundaeguk taste like?

My husband's spicy extra-tripe sundaeguk! It arrives boiling hot. Chives go in right away! He tasted the broth and said, wow, that's spicy. I ordered the plain version since my stomach was a bit upset. He diligently fished out all the bits, mixed in his rice, and finished the whole bowl. Must have really loved it, haha.

Suraok extra-tripe sundaeguk: how much tripe, and how it eats

The Suraok extra-tripe sundaeguk! True to the name, it's loaded with tripe inside — seriously generous amount! And you know how tripe can sometimes get chewy? Not a chance here — none of that! It's really tender. And diced radish kimchi is a must with any soup — crunchy, well-fermented, and absolutely perfect with this.

The broth is amazing too — a legit sundaeguk spot near Juan Station! I started off enjoying the pure flavor and then added a bit of salted shrimp later, and both ways were delicious! The weather's gotten chilly lately, so I was craving something hot, and a bowl of this soup really gave me energy.

Yakult served after the meal

After the meal: yakult instead of ice cream

They used to give out free ice cream after the meal, but it's been changed to yakult! Make sure to have your post-meal yakult after a delicious bowl of sundaeguk — it's honey-sweet, haha. Every time I come here I enjoy it so much that I want to come back again.
