Nerdy Blue Burrow, a café near Wangsimni Station, only sells customers cold brew and hand-drip coffee. Cold brew and hand-drip coffee take much more care and time than a regular americano or café latte.

And yet the owner of this Wangsimni Station café was selling only cold brew and hand-drip, drinks with a lower profit margin relative to the labor involved. I actually went with my partner on a Sunday, and after drinking the cold brew latte, she said, "I don't really know much about coffee, but this tastes completely different from other places?"

I felt the same flavor myself. As someone who regularly drinks cold brew lattes, I know that cold brew usually has a soft, subtle bean aroma, so I said "Right?" and took a sip — and even for me, the flavor was a bit different from what I was used to.

The nutty flavor of the beans was a bit more pronounced, and the acidity felt slightly more highlighted, I'd say? But the difference wasn't awkward at all — it was a taste that kept pulling me back for another sip. You could tell the owner loves cold brew and has put a lot of research into it. The nutty cream mocha I ordered also had cold brew in it. It was a really appealing dessert-style coffee.

With its atmosphere, this Wangsimni café, Nerdy Blue Burrow, seems like it would suit these kinds of people.

Nerdy Blue Burrow closes relatively early on Mondays at 5:00 PM, but is open from Tuesday to Sunday until 9:30 PM. That said, the hours sometimes shift a bit depending on the owner's condition, and it seems like this is usually announced in the morning.

On the Sunday my partner and I visited, the opening time had changed to 1:30 PM, so we sat for a while at Sowol Art Hall's park, enjoying the cool breeze and chatting before heading in.

Inside the teal old house: a hideout-style café interior

The interior of Nerdy Blue Burrow, run by an owner who loves cold brew, makes use of an old house tucked in the alley, decked out from the exterior to the interior in a deep teal that catches your eye even from far away.

My partner told me the name "Burrow" is apparently drawn from the concept of Ron's house in Harry Potter. The owner apparently designed the space to feel a bit cluttered yet warm and comfortable, like a home — and it really did feel exactly like that.

Wooden tables, vintage chairs, old books and LP records, and vintage props like a radio all blended together naturally.

Rather than a polished, large-scale café, it felt more like stopping by a hideout that reflected the owner's own taste.

Even in the bright afternoon light around 2 PM, a soft yellow lighting was layered in, and sitting across from my partner...

...it felt like a warm, moody café near Wangsimni Station, perfect for chatting over coffee.

What's on the Nerdy Blue Burrow drink and dessert menu

For the main cold brew and hand-drip coffee menu at Nerdy Blue Burrow, you could add decaf for ₩900 or swap to oat milk for ₩500. Beyond that, there were non-coffee drinks like Berry Happy, Nerdy Milk, Line 2 Ade, and milk tea, as well as cocktails and alcoholic drinks that suited the café's mood, like Pink Burrow, the original highball, and the Earl Grey highball — available even in the morning.

Here's what my partner and I ordered. Even though cold brew takes a lot of care and time, the price was still pretty reasonable, don't you think?

Cold brew latte at Nerdy Blue Burrow

First off, the texture was creamier than milk usually is — I suspect there might be a bit of fresh cream mixed in.

Cold brew is usually known for a subtle, long-lasting, soft bean aroma, but here it felt a bit more muted, maybe because of the milk's nuttiness. That's not to say the bean flavor wasn't noticeable — it came through clearly while still being quite harmonious. That nutty bean aroma lingered in my mouth even after finishing the drink, along with a faint hint of acidity.

This is the owner's own distinctive style of cold brew.

That was something my partner and I both agreed on.

Nutty cream mocha

According to the description, it was coffee mixing a hazelnut chocolate base with cold brew. And of course, cream was piled on top.

The cream on top was literally fresh cream, a bit on the runny side, and sweet and nutty when tasted on its own.

I just scooped it up as is sometimes, and dipping the dessert in it before mixing had its own charm too. But before mixing the nutty cream mocha, both my partner and I said something similar about the flavor underneath the cream — "It's a little rich, haha" —

But once fully mixed, the smooth, subtle coffee aroma of the cold brew combined with the mocha and chocolate flavors, creating a sweet, nutty blend of harmonious aromas. My partner said as soon as she tried it, "Oh! It goes together so well once mixed!" And I felt exactly the same.

Fresh cheesecake, made in house

Even the dessert here carried the owner's personal touch. It was a handmade dessert you couldn't get anywhere else.

The cream cheese was quite soft and sweet, with a faint, curious acidity as well. On top of that, the cake's texture was something I'd never quite felt before, along with almonds and dried coconut.

I really enjoyed the nutty sweetness and it suited my taste well, but my partner didn't seem to love the dried coconut. "If it just didn't have coconut, this would be an amazing dessert..." she said, so

I told her, "Yeah, coconut can be a bit love-it-or-hate-it, but I think it's delicious." What was funny though was that she still wanted to split the very last piece in half with me. That's how you know it was good!

Is Nerdy Blue Burrow worth a trip to Wangsimni?

Among cafés near Wangsimni Station, this was one of the standout coffee spots where you can enjoy in-house roasted cold brew. It also has distinctive handmade cakes, so it might well be sought out as a dessert café in Wangsimni too. And it's a pet-friendly café near Wangsimni Station where you can relax comfortably with your pet. If you want to enjoy a different kind of cold brew coffee with your partner in a warm, hideout-like atmosphere, I'd recommend Nerdy Blue Burrow.
