Xiaolongbao lunch at a Gangnam Station dim sum spot: Sinbok Myeongwan

In short

Sinbok Myeongwan is a Chinese and dim sum restaurant in the underground arcade right in front of Gangnam Station Exit 1 in Seoul. The xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) held broth at a warm temperature that never burned the tongue, and the dao xiao mian (knife-cut noodles) mixed thick and thin strands seasoned right through by the soup. Easy to reach and roomy inside, Sinbok Myeongwan works just as well for a meet-up as for a group meal.

I went to Sinbok Myeongwan (신복면관), a restaurant right in front of Gangnam Station Exit 1 that's amazingly easy to get to — a real Exit 1/2 favorite (๑˙ꄃ˙๑)♡⃛

How to find Sinbok Myeongwan from Gangnam Station Exit 1

Sinbok Myeongwan sits right in front of Gangnam Station Exit 1 — the moment you come up the escalator or stairs, it's right there in plain sight. Even if you're bad with directions, there's zero chance of getting lost. Truly an Exit 1/2 favorite, and about as close to the station as it gets.

The area around Gangnam Station can get pretty confusing, so places are often hard to find, but Sinbok Myeongwan gets top marks just for its location — I thought it'd make a great meeting spot.

Inside Sinbok Myeongwan: seating and atmosphere

Walking through the door, the inside of Sinbok Myeongwan was way more spacious and open than I expected — no cramped feeling at all.

Overall, the interior of this Exit 1/2 favorite was clean, and the tables were spaced generously apart, giving off a well-managed, hygienic feel.

The staff greeted me with smiles from the moment I walked in, and they were attentive about taking care of whatever I needed right away — thanks to that thoughtful service, I could relax and enjoy the whole meal ᙏ̤̫͚

How hot was the xiaolongbao broth?

For this meal at Sinbok Myeongwan, I ordered the two signature dishes — xiaolongbao and dao xiao mian.

The xiaolongbao arrived first, steaming away in a bamboo steamer and looking absolutely delicious — the visuals alone got my appetite going. Usually xiaolongbao broth is scalding hot enough to burn your tongue, but

Sinbok Myeongwan's xiaolongbao held broth at just the right warm temperature to eat comfortably — I really loved that.

I put a dumpling on my spoon, tore the wrapper a little, and tasted the broth first — a rich, savory flavor burst in my mouth all at once, honestly impressive (๑❛ڡ❛๑)

The wrapper wasn't too thick either, nice and chewy, so the filling and broth worked together perfectly.

Dao xiao mian at Sinbok Myeongwan: noodles and soup

Next came the main dish, Sinbok Myeongwan's dao xiao mian — the noodles and broth alike were genuinely well done.

Thanks to the distinctive shape of dao xiao mian — noodles shaved off as if cut with a knife — I could really feel that unique, appealing texture.

The dao xiao mian noodles mix thick and thin parts in an interesting way, so there's fun in the chewing,

but they're never tough — they go down smooth, and I kept reaching for more ♡⃛

The broth's seasoning soaked all the way into the noodles, so they were moist and tender without any sense of the flavor just sitting on the surface.

The broth at Sinbok Myeongwan's dao xiao mian was especially outstanding — the moment I took a sip, a deep, rich umami wrapped around my whole mouth.

It wasn't spicy just for the sake of being spicy — there was a deep base flavor from a long, rich simmer underneath, and the more I drank, the more refreshed I felt.

The rich broth and soft noodles came together perfectly — addictive enough that I didn't leave a single drop of broth behind (๑˙ꄃ˙๑)

Is Sinbok Myeongwan good for meet-ups and group meals?

Between the delicious food, the clean dining space, and the friendly staff, it was a satisfying visit all around.

If you want to try properly made dao xiao mian and xiaolongbao packed with broth, I'd strongly recommend stopping by Sinbok Myeongwan without hesitation.

With food and service this good, I think I'll be back again soon whenever I'm craving dao xiao mian.
