Couple's meal: gochujang pork rice bowl & bibimbap, 1992 Deopbap

REVIEW 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch 6 Gangnam-daero 84-gil, 1st floor, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea

My husband and I had a Gangnam date after a while, and afterward we headed to 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch, a well-known Korean restaurant near Gangnam Station, for a filling meal. They have such a wide menu — from rice bowls to jjageuli — that it was fun for the two of us to pick different things according to our own tastes. Here's my review after a delicious meal.

A delivery/takeout counter right at the entrance, ordering by kiosk

As soon as we arrived at the entrance of 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch, we spotted a separate delivery/takeout counter — you could tell right away this place gets nonstop delivery orders haha.

There's a kiosk near the entrance so ordering is simple. You can look at photos of the food and pick your menu, then pay quickly — very convenient.

Right beside it there's a water dispenser, and even hair ties, toothpicks, wet wipes, candy, and mouthwash haha — I was surprised by how thoughtfully they'd prepared everything a customer might need. That kind of small consideration is oddly touching.

There's even a phone charger so you can charge up while you eat haha. I also grabbed some mouthwash and used it after the meal to freshen up.

The private room, solo dining seats, and the overall vibe

Going further inside, there's a private room too haha — a space set up for groups to eat together, which looked like it would work well as a gathering spot.

There's even a water mill, giving the place a strong traditional Korean restaurant feel.

There's even a message from 'jjageuli's grandson' hahaha.

It's a self-service system — you pick up your ordered menu at the food counter, and once you're done eating, you return your own dishes. Simple and convenient.

They even labeled the restroom as 'ditgan' (an old-fashioned word for outhouse) lol, which I found funny.

The solo dining seats were also clean and nicely arranged. Lots of people really do eat alone here. There was a traditional folding screen spread out in front of them too hahaha, which gave off that proper Korean-restaurant atmosphere.

There were plenty of solo diners, foreign customers, and couples too. It's a genuinely popular Korean restaurant in Gangnam!!

Menu and prices

With such a wide-ranging menu, it was fun just deciding what to eat. From rice bowls to jjageuli, bibimbap, and gukbap, they have hearty Korean dishes covered hahaha. It's a proper Korean food specialty restaurant.

There's deumbuk jjageuli, Jeonju bibimbap, doenjang jjageuli, Jeolla-do style gochujang pork rice bowl, Jeolla-do style yukhoe (raw beef) rice bowl, and more. There are also char-grilled options like flame-grilled jeyuk (spicy pork) rice bowl and garlic teriyaki woo-samgyeop (beef belly) rice bowl, so it was great being able to pick according to our mood.

The Jeolla-do style gochujang pork rice bowl arrived.

With appetizing shredded scallions on top and everything arranged neatly across the table, it looked filling just to look at haha.

The side dishes were kept simple too, with just what was needed — nice and clean.

The seasoning wasn't too strong and paired well with the rice, so I polished off the whole bowl easily. Since the pork was char-grilled, there was a subtle smoky aroma that made it even tastier.

Mix it all up and dig in, yum.

The steamed egg was the perfect side to go with it.

Jeonju bibimbap, packed with vegetables, plus kimchi jjigae

The Jeonju bibimbap also came out in a generous, neatly arranged bowl. I ordered it because I wanted to eat all kinds of vegetables in one healthy dish.

It was loaded with all sorts of namul (seasoned vegetables), so just looking at it made me feel healthier haha.

Mixing the vegetables evenly through the rice with the special gochujang sauce and giving it a good stir, the crunchy texture of the vegetables blended really well with the savory flavor! Bibimbap really is great because you get to eat so many different ingredients at once haha. There's gochujang sauce underneath, so if you'd like less, be sure to say so in advance!!

So many fresh vegetables… this kind of thing is really hard to make at home, ugh.

The sesame oil also came in a stick pack, so I drizzled it in and mixed everything together.

The kimchi jjigae that came alongside was better than expected too haha. If your throat gets a little tight while eating the bibimbap, a warm spoonful of kimchi jjigae is exactly what you need.

Eating the bibimbap together with the kimchi jjigae made the whole meal feel even more filling. They even give you yakgwa (honey cookie) for dessert hahaha. The sikhye was one we bought ourselves, but it's rich and delicious! It really finishes the meal off nicely.

To sum up

1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch is the kind of Gangnam Station restaurant you'll want to come back to whenever you're craving a filling, clean Korean meal — whether for lunch or a solo meal near Gangnam Station. It's also worth trying via delivery or takeout, not just dine-in! If you're near Gangnam and can't decide on a satisfying meal, definitely stop by! Next time, I'm definitely getting the jjageuli!! Hahaha.
