Gangnam dim sum dinner: xiaolongbao and fried rice, Sinbok Myeongwan

Why I chose Sinbok Myeongwan near Gangnam Station for a solo dinner
Sinbok Myeongwan near Gangnam Station is a dim sum, noodle and fried rice Chinese restaurant at 6 Teheran-ro 4-gil, B126, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. I'd had bread for lunch, so by dinner I really wanted a proper meal — hungry, that's how I ended up here. I wanted dim sum too, but first I picked shrimp fried rice to fill up properly.
Out front there's a sign in Chinese characters and photos of the food hanging up, and the menu turned out to have quite a range beyond dim sum — noodles, rice, and stir-fried dishes too.
Sinbok Myeongwan menu prices: what does dim sum cost?
Based on the menu board I photographed on my visit, shrimp fried rice was 10,500 won and xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) was 9,800 won. The xiaolongbao came as a set of 6.
Beef knife-cut noodles and spicy knife-cut noodles were 11,000 won each, and beef fried rice was 10,500 won. Shumai and crystal wangmandu (dumplings) were 9,800 won each too, so you could choose to go dim-sum-only or pair it with a full meal.
Peanuts and vegetable side dishes worth pairing with the meal
The peanuts that came as a basic side at Sinbok Myeongwan were seasoned quite salty. Rather than something to snack on plain, they worked better paired with other food. I ended up eating these little side dishes alongside the fried rice and dim sum, not just the mains.
The vegetable side dish, which felt like zha cai (pickled mustard root), had cabbage, carrot, and a few other vegetables mixed in. It had richer flavor than a single-ingredient side would, and was a good match when the meal started feeling a bit heavy — it worked as a palate reset between bites.
Water dispenser and drink fridge at Sinbok Myeongwan
Even the water pitcher had Sinbok Myeongwan's name printed on it. A small detail, but it made it instantly clear whose restaurant it belonged to, so it caught my eye. To me, putting the name even on something like this felt like real attention to branding.
The drink fridge also had a good variety on offer. With several types of soda and bottled drinks visible, there seemed to be plenty of choice for pairing something with the meal.
Shrimp fried rice, 10,500 won: a bigger portion than expected
The shrimp fried rice at Sinbok Myeongwan came with finely chopped shrimp on top of the rice. At first I wondered how fried rice served this way would taste, but one bite in, the rice itself turned out to be well-fried and nicely salty.
It was tasty on its own without needing any extra sauce. I ordered it because I was hungry, but as I ate, the portion turned out to be bigger than I expected. Even once I was fairly full, I still finished it all — the fried rice is what really stuck with me from this meal.
The egg soup that came alongside looked like it would be bland, but it was surprisingly seasoned. It was a little salty with a hint of spice too, which caught me off guard on the first sip. It went well as something to sip between bites of fried rice.
Xiaolongbao, 6 pieces for 9,800 won: how juicy were they?
The xiaolongbao at Sinbok Myeongwan is 9,800 won for 6, working out to about 1,630 won each. Given the price, you naturally expect the flavor to match, and it did — filled with pork broth inside that lived up to expectations.
Once you lift one onto a spoon and open it up, you can see the broth inside. Adding a bit of sauce and tasting the broth first was a great way to eat them. They had a different appeal from the fried rice, and I was glad I'd ordered dim sum alongside the rice even though I'd come in for a meal.
That said, the fried rice portion was bigger than expected. If you're planning to have dim sum along with it, it's best to alternate between the rice and the xiaolongbao to pace your appetite. I walked in hungry and walked out full.
Visit tips: single seats and budget for two
Oh, and one tip for visiting — since single-person seats aren't really common here, you'll often end up seated further inside, so it's good to keep that in mind.
Also, since the main dishes are in the 20,000-won range, if two of you plan to eat generously, budgeting around 50,000 won would be a good idea.
